Style: Kölsch

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.00%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Brewed in homage to the beer of Cologne, Krankshaft is a pale straw hued smile in a glass. We throw in a little wheat malt to round out an easy Santiam hop bitterness. There are no Köbes to serve them up, but you should feel free to have as many as you like.

On tap at Blue Moon in Madison, Wisconsin. Served in a pint glass.

Appears lighter golden bodied, clear and bubbly, one finger white head with great retention time, plenty of lacing. Smells bready, a bit of honey, toasted whole grain, noble hop aromas, a bit of lemon citrus. Flavour is bread and grain sweetness, toasted, a bit of sugary malt, mild lemon, mild floral bitterness. Mouthfeel is thinner-medium bodied, good carbonation, mildly bitter finish that isn't too hard to drink. Overall, a decent, drinkable kolsch that won't knock your socks off.

12 oz bottle poured and split in 2 tasting glasses
Purchased from Binny's (Mix 6)

A - very light golden straw color, 1 finger of white head that dissipated very quickly
S - slight aroma of cut grass, floral notes present as well
T - a little white grapey (what I normally pick up in Kolsch-style biers) metallic finish
M - sweet finish lingers on the palette, not dry!
O - an OK bier. didn't knock my socks off, but it was extremely drinkable and thirst quenching

12 oz. bottle, with no apparent bottled on date present. Acquired a single bottle of this stuff as part of a mixed six pack at the local Jewel.

Poured into a clear balloon snifter.

A - It pours a nice hazy golden yellow body with two fingers of soft frothy white head that stays for a while and leaves behind good fat lacing on the glass. Looks very nice.

S - A light aroma - sweetened grains, with a kiss of herbal / piney hops in the background. Doughy, yeasty, floral, and a touch citrusy.

T - The taste follows the nose - crisp, sweetened wheat / grains, lightly herbal, citrusy, piney, & spritzy.

M - The feel is smooth, crisp, & clean. Light-bodied and very easy drinking.

Overall, a very nice representation of the style from Metropolitan Brewing. Definitely something I would drink again and often, especially during the summer months.
