I have a bit of hometown bias, but this is one of my favorite IPAs. For those who are crazy about hops, this might not satisfy, but it is a great beer and has a very distinct flavor. I have had it multiple times from cans and taps, at both KH locations and in other settings.

Look: pretty standard golden amber. Typical IPA fare. Fairly foamy head.
Smell: nutty, musty, probably the least appealing feature of the beer.
Taste: Part of what makes this a great beer is the uniqueness of taste. As opposed to the overwhelming hoppy beers that are common to the American IPA style, this beer reminds me more of English IPAs in its balance hopwise. So it is more subtle, and that allows the quality malts to really shine through. As opposed to being an "experience" beer like many hop-forward IPAs, this is a balanced beer that doesn't overwhelm in any way. It reminds me of a session IPA, except it is much higher ABV.
Feel: Not as carbonated as many similar beers. Very, very smooth.

Overall, one of the top 3 beers in the Missoula brewery circuit.

Poured from can into a pint glass

Appearance – The beer pours a golden amber color with a billowy white head of two finger height. The head has a great level of retention, slowly fading to leave tons of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell – The aroma of the brew is mainly a blend of a citrus grapefruit hop aroma and a bready and slightly doughy smell. Along with these smells comes some other aromas of a tropical fruit natures as well as some nice pine hop smells.

Taste – The taste begins with a rather strong bitter grapefruit flavor mixed with a drier cracker like malt bill. As the taste advances the grapefruit remains relatively constant but is joined by other hop flavors of a more pine and earthy nature. The little bit of a fruit and caramel that are present upfront, quickly fade with the hops really taking command of the taste as the flavors move onto the end. All in all, due to the loss of the sweet and the increase in the hop, as well as the drier malt and a little bit of booziness that sneaks it way into the later portions of the taste, one is left with a dry and bitter taste to linger on the tongue.

Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is on the slightly thinner side for a brew of 6.5 % abv. with a carbonation level that is rather average. The thinner body is actually quite appropriate for the very dry flavors of the brew adding a dimension of crispness to the overall feel.

Overall – A decent IPA overall that is a bit on the crisper side. While decent, it really is nothing all that out of the ordinary. One to give a go to, in order to see what you think. But for me, its just sorta standard.
