Brewed by:
KettleHouse Brewing Co. (Southside Taproom)
Montana, United States

Style: Hefeweizen

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.00%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Hellgate Honey Hefeweizen is a smooth drinker for those hot summer days. The honey helps boost the alcohol content while also adding a floral bouquet to the nose. Yeast is left in the beer to add body (creamy mouth feel in beer geek’s terms) head retention and stability (another beer geek term), and a slight haziness. All to let you know that you’re drinking a fresh locally made beer that is still alive!

Purchased at the Brewery in August 2004 in a bomber 22oz bottle. Poured with a decent head and smelled awesome. Didn't expect it to smell that good. Upon first taste it tasted like a typical hefe, but a bit sweeter. And as you continued to drink it, you could sense the honey flavor. Actually more of an intense honey flavor than I was expecting. A very drinkable beer that went down easy. Glad I purchased two of them when I was there. If you are in Missoula, swing buy and try this beer. You won't be disappointed.

This is different than most honey ales I have tasted. Most are not able to balance the hops and the honey flavor so that a delicate union can occur. The initial aroma and flavor are pure wheat beer. The honey mostly comes through in the finish. This is the first brew I have had where the honey character actually tasted like honey instead of just abrupt sweetness. Just great.

Bought this while in Missoula. Comes in one pint river friendly cans now.
A: Pours a slightly cloudy yellow color. Good white frothy head, good lace down the glass
S: Yeast smell, also smells of honey
T: Wheat, also a slight honey taste.
M: Smooth easy drinking, perfect amount of carbonation.
D: Not a bad wheat beer, decent flavor, however nothing really stands out with this one. Pretty average I would say. Not one of my favorites from Kettlehouse.
