Style: Scotch Ale / Wee Heavy

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.50%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Formulated with Montana grown 2-row barley, northwest Goldings hops, and lotsa love, this hearty ale drinks very smooth. Not bitter at all and not too sweet either. Novice beer drinkers have been known to take a taste and then say, “WOW! That’s not what I expected… that’s GOOD!” A hint of roasted barley lends a slight coffee-like smoky finish. With a 6.5% abv, this beer is perfect after a day of rippin’ lines on area or your favorite back country getaway.

Had on-tap 04/15/16 at the Bacchus Pub in Bozeman, MT

Appearance - Served to the brim in a pint, with broken webbed suds strewn across the surface. The brew itself is relatively clear, and dark ruby brown in color. Fair lacing, consisting of broken lines and small spots found around the glass.

Smell - Smokey and sweet. Hard to pinpoint any particular character past that.

Taste - Follows the nose with a laid back profile. Moderate smokiness with a touch of caramel and honeyed-grain sweetness. Ghostly trace of chocolate somewhere in there. Finishes much the same as it starts.

Mouthfeel - Medium-bodied with bitey carbonation. Slick texture lends to easy drinking with a crisp finish.

Overall - A very drinkable, though not outstanding scotch ale. Fair smokiness, but not much to stand on past that.

In a pint glass. It poured a deep dark brown with a hint of ruby. The 1 finger thick head settled into a thin film and left moderate lacing.
The nose is roasted malt, light esters, and a little brown sugar type sweetness.
The taste is my favorite part. The initial malt explosion features sweet roasted malt and coffee flavors with nicely balanced bitterness. The yeast provides a nice, light fruity ester profile alongside the malt.
The mouthfeel is full with moderate carbonation.
This is one of my favorite beers. The malt profile is right on. It always goes down smooth and is perfect for any occasion! I only wish I could get it more regularly. Try this beer if you can! Cheers!

On draft in shaker pint glass

Dark brown, garnet colored highlights . Rich malty aroma. Taste is balanced, not too sweet. Nice mouthfeel, thick and smooth.
