had an awesome experience at wiggys the second time in. after hearing about my bad experience the beer guy zack agreed to set some time aside to make my visit right. i was also lucky enough to come in as he was stocking the new beers.

most of the beers at wiggys are craft with only one cooler being for the big three. nice selection.

in terms of service i cant stress enough how helpful zack was. you can tell he really cares about maintaning a good and fresh selection of beers. good conversation and i even learned a bit about the beers.

selection had changed a good amount in the two weeks between visits and i was very impressed with the new beers.

good prices. about a dollar more than one of the chain supermarkets but certainly cheaper than most convenience stores.

if youre in the area i recommend checking this place out.

Spotted Wiggy's for the first time while driving on 6th today, so I made a spur-of-the-moment stop to check things out. The store is dark and a little cluttered as you enter the narrow front room, crowded by shelves of liquor. A larger back room seemed to have a large wine selection.

At the back of the front room are a few coolers of typically good craft beer. Scanning them, I found mostly bombers and 750s that are pretty accessible elsewhere in town. Still, Wiggy's did have some desirable specialty offerings, like Avery's Anniversary release. I wasn't approached or asked for help, and the cashier wasn't friendly or offensive, so I can't say too much about the service. Prices were a little higher than other stores, but not outrageously so. I left with a Chapeau Faro and Widmer 84/09 Double Alt.

Wiggy's seems a good place to check for rare or special releases, but I don't think I'll make it my stop for typical beer hauls.

Stopped by Wiggy's after lunch at Z-Tejas. Pleasantly surprised to find a nice stash of 2007 Sisyphus barleywine, some Anchor Old Foghorn, and a nice selection of craft brews. Nothing here that you wouldn't find at Whip-in or Grape Vine, but still a well-designed selection. (Definitely nowhere near the 180 bottles *originally* listed on its Beerfly page [now updated to 120]...after a convincing beermail from a fellow BA it seems Wiggy's selection appropriately falls in the 100-120 range)

Service was good; one guy seemed a little dick-ish when I asked for an empty six pack in which to stash my singles, but another worker was quite friendly and helpful. Prices were slightly steep (~$28 for a sixer of SN Torpedo and a mixed 6-pack). I probably won't be making any special trips to Wiggy's in the near future, but it's a decent little beer store.

I've been to Wiggy's on 6th a couple of times now. It has a cool funky Austin vibe -- it's located in a old building with a wooden Indian in the front. The store is mostly wine and spirits but the beer selection that they have is solid. They have 6 or so refrigerators with only 1 dedicated to macros. Zack, the beer guy, has personalized the selection and recommended some beers. Also, there are lots of BA shelf talkers on beers. This is a terrific place for a beer noob to pick up a few beers to try. The service is very good with a friendly and helpful staff.
They had several hard to find beers including, Ten Fidy and the DeProef signature series -- both the Tomme Arthur and Allagash ones.
The prices are a bit on the high side compared to the larger big box stores but still pretty reasonable for downtown austin.

A great neighborhood beer store in the heart of downtown Austin.
