Pours hazy orange/amber/golden hues with a densley packed but muted white head. Traces of lace on the goblet.
Aroma has light citrusy front with some cracked grain and hay in the background and some spiced coriander presenting itself. Just a hint of pepper as it warmed.
Flavor has some spicy yeat and pepper notes along with the citrus and bready notes. Some pale malts underpin the flavors providing a solid bit of balance.
Mouthfeel is weel-done to style with a light but palate coating feel and a good balance of the spice, malt and citrus hoppiness.
Drinkability is very solid and another winner from the NB folks.

well ok, you really can't beat the value for this one. 7.99 for a six pack of tripel.

appearacne: pretty lacklusted head fades fast. the beer is a orange color, a bit dark

smell: not as complex as a usual, but some nice apples and yeasty spices. a malty sweetness as well.

taste: nice dry, with more of a green apple flavor. pretty yum and better with the yeast.

mouthfeel: nice and light, although still plenty of body.

drinkability: stuff is pretty good. i never have more than one a night, but it's nice to have some on hand.

Deep gold color, very clear, with loads of bubbles. The fluffy white head is about half-inch but it has amazing staying power. The smell is not overly strong but has a sweet nose of banana and light citrus. The taste is a nice sweet malt flavor of banana, wheat, and citrus. The finish is a bit sour, the alcohol is not too strong however. Mouthfeel is light to medium, lots of carbonation, decent coating. Decent drinkability, the malt flavor is softly sweet, but the finish is not all that impressive. Still very good for an American attempt at the Tripel style...

I am sampling this brew at room temperature in a tulip/snifter. The beer pours a bright clear gold with fluffy bleached white head foaming up easily and fading slowly leaving craters as it recedes. The aroma is some yeasty dough with coriander, honey and maybe cloves with just a hint of spicy hops, fairly sweet overall.
First sip reveals a lite body with fine yet very lively carbonation. ONe swish in my mouth and it is all foam!
Flavor starts of sweet with some sugar and a bit of honey sweetness. The beer rolls to a slight peppery bitterness that I attribute to alcohol, but could also be the hops which the label tells me are generously added to the brew. The bitterness lingers for a while but makes me want the sweet malt from the start again, urging me to take another sip.
A pretty easy drinker and a decent shot at a sometimes disastrous style. WOrth a shot!

When I first moved to Colorado, a craftbeer novice at the time, I tried New Belgium's trippel and dismissed it as a beer that I didn't want to try again. I was wrong to have done so...lucky for me, after undue ignorance
and rejection, I gave it a second chance on a whim. What a great brew.

Trippel is a light golden, almost champagne color with a thick, frothy head. The bouquet is filled with apples and light phenols, as well as a bubblegum scent and a hint of saltiness. All told, a nice mix of
sweet and savory.

The taste is light liquid sugar: a strong fruit and candy beginning that rolls across the tongue and leaves a sea-like (read, salty) aftertaste that crisply dries the back of the tongue and leaves the mouth wanting more. The overall feeling is medium bodied and the beer develops stronger hints of clove, dirt, and pepper throughout the pint.

I'd happily throw several of these down in a row. A refreshing and complex brew. I can't wait to match it to a nice cheesy pasa or crostini!

Don't make the same mistake I did: try this now, try this again, and enjoy. It's one of New Belgium's finest brews.

Pours a hazy peach with two full fingers of egg-white foam.Super clean entry supported by millions of tiny bubbles and a midtaste of tropical fruits and rich Belgian yeast.

Hops punch through, complimenting the palate-pleasing mouthfeel and adding additional complexity. Finish is highlighted with a unique yeast strain and wonderful residual sweetness left on the lips. Lacing delicately decorates the sides of a tulip as I quickly realize that 12 ounces is not nearly enough of this nectar.

I picked up a couple of these at a specialty shop to taste and review. I poured this beer into a large chalice.

Pours a pale gold color and is a little cloudy. A three finger head is snow white and airy, with lots of little white bubbles that stick to the sides to the glass.

The smell is fairly strong and remarkable. It smells of sour citrus fruit, and pine. It is a very unusual and complicated smelling beer.

The taste is also fairly fruity and sweet and sour at the same time. There is a faint taste of liquor.

Mouth feel is light and refreshing, tangy and zippy.

This is a very drinkable beer, with complex and appealing aromas and flavors. The flavors are very well balanced. Except for the ABV, I wouldn’t mind having several of these in a session. I would certainly love to drink Tripple again.

Soft somewhat musty aroma though there is some fruity sweetness. Golden body with a small but lively white head. Bannana and pear flavors in the fore. Slightly yeasty through the middle and it is very soft on the palate and rounded with a toned down alcohol presence for its abv.

Muted golden in appearance. Not a lot of head. Sulfury aroma-yeasties abound. Touch of spice and alcohol. Peppery and malted flavor. Nice phenolic bite to it. A touch overbittered. Decent mouthfeel. The peppery spice makes it a bit astringent but not neccessarily in a bad way. A decent effort for a US brewer.

Bottle inspection: Tasteful art of the 3 ladies cavorting, label gives abv. of 7.8%, a best before date of 18AUG06 (enjoyed 22FEB06) serving temperature suggest of 45 degrees, glassware suggestion in silhouette (classic New Belgium goblet, which I’m using) and even the marketing blurb gives some good information (triple fermentation or bottle conditioning, and Saaz hops). THAT’S how you do a label, bravo!

Aroma: Peppery spiciness is up front backed with a lemon rind twist and some Belgian yeast notes.

Appearance: Dirty blonde golden glass capped by a good finger of snowy head that laced even when I just tilted to smell.

Taste: Dry, with a powdery yeast note taking the lead. A medley of fruit flavors rush in as well, some Belgian banana, grape, pear, hints of bubble gum, white pepper, and citric rind. Only mild alcohol flavors escape.

Mouthfeel: Firm, slight exuberant carbonation, medium body, and very dry.

Overall: Classic example of the style. This one seems a bit dry, and maybe just a touch “boozy”, but well worth a try. I’m struggling to find points to ding it on, really a top-notch beer.

This beer poured a cloudy golden yellow color with a medium white head with some active bubbling. The beer had an earthy aroma with some fruit in the background that was pleasing. The taste was bready and earthy with some spice and sweet notes at the end. Medium bodied with some active carbonation. Although this beer rings in at 8.5% abv, it is deceivingly drinkable.

Best before 18Aug06 and suggested serving temp of 45 deg. F on the label...very nice.

Appearance: Pours a cloudy honey yellow with a rocky white head.

Smell: Belgian yeasty funk with some nice sweet flowery and honey characteristics.

Taste: Wheat bread, again with the B-funk taste, a bit of clove, slightly peppery and finishes kind of dry and sweet.

Mouthfeel: Medium to light bodied and nicely carbonated.

Drinkability: A nice take on the style. Not my fave but I think it's a well done beer and a good example of what a tripel should be.

Big huge head of white bubble whiteness bubbling whitely atop dark, tequila-gold champagne.

Smells like white pepper and spice. Fruit in the yeast is more apples and pears than your more traditional, more astringent Tripel fuirts. Caramel malt is more present as the beer warms.

Strong taste of very firm fizz and pepper. The fizz kills much of the complexity, but it is still very tasty. Belgian yeast up front, alcohol allspice. A bit of hop bitterness at the very end.

This is a very strong showing from a good brewery.

12 oz bottle courtesy of mntlover, pours into a goblet a cloudy apricot orange body with a small and satinesque offwhite head. The head retains well and leaves some spotty links of chain lace behind.
Aroma is fruity, musty yeasty, and softly spiced with coriander. Very tasty notes of ripe apricot and melon are complimented by hints of clover honey and burnt caramel. A vegetal mushroom note is also present.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied, soft and satiny with the moderated carbonation.
Taste tries to echo the nose, but a softly spiced, bready yeastiness largely dominates. Not as fruity as the aroma suggests, but still throws you some honeydew and cantelope melon notes. Definite warmth is noticed from the 8.5 % abv, but not hot. Nice balance is provided by some citrusy grapefruit hop flavor. Finish is dry, yeasty, and earthy, with a kiss of coriander.
A very solid tripel from the same Colorado brewery that produces the elusive, La Folie. Very well done.

Pours out a nice golden orange color, but i accidently poured some sediment into the glass which probably will effect the taste some. White head comes up. Good lacing.

Smells of sweetness and i also get jsut a little cooked vegetables. I do get a light citrus smell to it-lemony, gives it a slight tart smell to it. Sweetness like roasted marshmellows. nice.

Taste. I think the sediment did effect it a touch. I got an initial taste of belgium wheat taste, some coriandar. It is sweet, but does have a sourness like a almost ripe pearor apricop. I wish i would have been more carefull pouring.

Mouthfeel is good. Nice carbonation and good balance. the carbonation gives it a spiceness to it, but it is still creamy.

Overall, i wish i could get this beer normally because for the price it is great. It is a decent example of the style, but i think there are better american tripels out there.

Looks like a cloudy pilsner with a frothier head.

Strong lemon scent mixed with hops and some typical belgian yeastiness in the aroma.

Somewhat sweet at first, a blending of hops brings up the middle and a crisp dose of lemon makes a mildly tart finish close out-exceptionally clean. Light acidity constantly scrubs the palate. High abv not even noticeable.

A wonderfully light tripel, this is a dangerous seducer worthy of all the recognition it gets. Matches exceptionally well with a white cheddar.

Pours a lofty frothing white head over golden body with a concert of bubbles slowly rising toward the heavens. Head slowly recedes to a thin covering leaving hearty lace in its wake. Aromas of light toasted Belgian malt and sugar. Slightly floral aroma from either the yeast or hops as well. Heavy toasted character up front in the taste. A light peppery spiciness and a tame sweetness balance out the initial toasted flavors. Not much of a perceptible hop presence. Fairly robust alcohol level contributes a moderately drying finish. Medium bodied and moderate carbonation

Not overly complex and a touch on the toasty side of things. A bit more sweetness may have helped, but overall this is an admirable American trippel.

12 oz. bottle, best before date: 18 August 2006. Sampled from a six-pack I procured while visiting family in Nebraska over the holidays. Golden amber haze with frothy off-white head. Sniffing reveals pears, apples, pineapples, yeastiness, and the faintest hints of cilantro and white pepper. The taste is assertively fruity -- sugary sour apples, almost like Green Apple Jolly Ranchers. There is also a strong Saaz hop kick with cilantro notes and a yeasty bread flavor. Slight mineral finish. Sparkling and juicy mouthfeel. Quite drinkable. Another strong offering from New Belgium that I wish I could find out here in the East.

Trippel Belgian Style Ale by New Belgium Brewing Inc. pours a slightly hazy (could be refrigerator haze) golden color with an average head that quickly fades leaving minimal lacing. First off, this beer is bottle fermented with live yeast. What does this mean? You can drink the yeast at the bottom, but most wouldn’t suggest it If you drink it, it could cause undesirable affects such as ‘runny butt’ (‘runny but’ is a technical term that doctors and politicians use). Just pour it carefully and you can leave it in the bottom of the bottle without wasting too much beer. By not pouring this in your glass, you will also have a much clearer beer. The beer smells like hops, peach and oddly enough, roses. It definitely has a yeasty smell. There are many things going on here in the nose.

Very full feeling, yet crisp. It has a light maltiness which is balanced with a spicy sweetness. There are subtle tones of citrus, more specifically, lemon. With as sweet as this beer can come off, it doesn’t have a very over-sweet cloying characteristic; It is a very complex beer. That is hard to accomplish. There is just a lot going on here.

Yet again, New Belgium has impressed me; this is another fine example, or should I say interpretation of a beer. This beer has nigh infinite complexities to it. Sweet but spicy, warm, yet crisp, it just makes for good drinkin’. Wow!

I'll start out by stating i'm a bigger fan of dubels vice their big brothers, but here goes: BBD of 22 Sep 2006

Pours a murky straw color with a creamy white head in to my orval glass. Nice bubbly head hangs on the surface. Not much lacing

Smell: Spiciness from pepper, musty blanket smell, lemon & yeastness

Taste: Slight sourness/tart with a lemon grass taste. Pepper and honey-like sweetness. Some bannana and band aid taste on the tounge. Dryness and a slight alcohol kick on the finish, very warming

MF: thick and chewy; carbonation trends slight to over carbonated, which I attribute to it's "youth"

Like I state;not my cup of tea these trippels. I tryed a enough in BE to make up my mind, but this compares favorably to some of the trippels I had over there. If you are into trippels give this a considered tasting; very true to style

Appearance: Pours a clear golden color with a beaten egg white head that leaves plenty of lacing behind

Smell: Bready and fruity (peaches, lychees, bananas, ripe pineapple) combined with a coriander twang and some citrus hoppiness;

Taste: Starts out bready and fruity with a touch of sweetness that never comes close to being cloying as it is matched with a lot of dryness; as the beer warms some of the banana clove character one would expect in a tripel starts to show through after the swallow; finishes with a surprising bite and hides the alcohol well (although you can tell it is there as it warms the gullet)

Mouthfeel: Light bodied and somewhat effervescent

Drinkability: Tripel is not my favorite style as so many of them tend to be sweet and hot, but this one stands out not only in the category but among the entire beer kingdom - fantastic!

Poured from 12 oz. bottle. Lucky enough to be west of the Mississippi so that I can sample some fine New Belgium brews!

A - Hazy yellow/orange with intense pillowy and billowy head. Started at 2 inches with careful pour and slowly/unevenly departed. About 1cm left throughout the beer. Lace left in some spots, but not even.

S- Sweet malts, fruity (banana hints), yeasty and floral

T- Very similar to smell, but more intense. Sweet and yeasty with lots of fruits and a bit of floral. Again, banana is most prominent of the fruits.

M- Smooth, not dry or bitter. Nice carbonation tingles the tongue a bit.

D- Alcohol not present at all in taste, but you might feel it after one or two. Divinely sippable.

Pours a medium golden with orange hints, a off white head falls fast to a ring with lots of bubbles rising. Some lace clings to my glass.

Aroma is sweet fruity malt, banana, mellons with some nice spice and earthy yeasts.

Taste is lively crisp malt mixed with fruit and noticable alcohol. Finish is lingering spice and earthy yeast. Not a bad brew little too much alcohol for me. Aroma and taste both pick up a little meat after the yeast are added.

Mouthfeel is around medium nice active carbonation, mouthfeel also increases after yeasts are added.

Drinkability is not bad a little too much noticable alcohol for my tastes to be better. Want to thank Dertbert for this sample, just recieved a cellared version which may be better.

The New Belgium Trippel pours from the bottle a nice darker golden orange color with a thin tightly bubbled white head atop the brew. Aromas are a nice mix of light fruit and spice upfront with a yeasty aroma that has notes of pepper, banana and bubblegum. Floral, herbal hops are well integrated to the aroma as well. An interesting aroma that brings you into the brew.

First sip brings a light, clean strudy maltiness that is quickly accompanied by a wave of light fruity flavors...banana, apple and a tasty peppery spiciness. Slightly bready yeastiness throughout with a nice snap of herbal, flowery hoppiness on the way down. Overall a nice interpretation of a tripel that's creamy, fairly sweet and easy to enjoy.

Mouthfeel has a nice body and steady carbonation that keeps it lively. There's only a hint of alcohol on the finish. I could see myself having a few of these in a sitting. Easily one of my favorites from the year round New Belgium line. Now if only I could get it in Illinois! Thanks to mentor for the hookup.

Appearance: Pours mostly clear with a little bit of the sediment from the bottom that made it in when I poured it...oops! There was about an inch of head at first pour that was made up of small creamy white bubbles. There were quite a few bubbles rising at first that caused a vortex-like action in the bubbles. Even after a minute or so, there are still quite a few bubbles rising to the top to maintain at least a 1/4" head on top of the beer. There is quite a bit of lacing on the glass after the head recedes.

Aroma: Considerable hops in the nose. I know that is what you expect with a tripel to a degree, but this is obvious. I would expect more light citrus fruit, where this is a lot more floral than just about any other tripel I have tried. There is quite a bit of bready yeast noticeable in the aroma as the head falls a bit.

Taste: The flavor has the consistency of a tripel, though the actual perception is that of a lighter beer. It doesn't seem light due to candy sugar, but more from a lighter alcohol. I know that this is not the case, as this beer boasts 8.5%. The beer is very well carbonated, but has enough chewyness to keep it from being "spritsy" on the palate. The finish is pretty dry with a very faint alcoholic warming.

Opinion: Well, I am pretty picky about my tripels. I am more partial to the citrus-laden fizzy brutes that make you warm up from the first sip. This beer is really good for one brewed in the USA...and available pretty readily. If I were to buy a tripel, it would probably be St. Bernardus or Westmalle...but at the same time...I would drink this beer again.
