This is a dandy taste experience, to be sure. It pours cloudy, fizzy and moderately chunky. The smell is bright ginger, yeast and soft fruit. In the taste department, there is plenty of zip and texture to this beer. Definitely not your typical ginger beer! Overall, a very enjoyable experiment, though I would not make a habit of purchasing this particular concoction.

Hazy white-yellow.
Smells like ginger and wheat.
It tastes very mild -- wheat, mostly, sweet. But the endtaste is actually quite spicy! Lots of ginger. Doesn't taste strong at all.

Poured into a snifter.

2.75 A: Well hazed medium orange color. Short lived off-white head that leaves no lacing.

3.5 S: Huge pear in this. Lemon and ginger secondary and complementary to the pear. Mildly tart with red apple notes. Light graininess, and subtly sweet.

3.5 T: The ginger comes through much stronger in the taste adding a pleasant spiciness. Pear, lemon, and apple follow. Less tart than it smells but still a hint - same with the sweetness. It's hard to comment on the base malts as the ginger and fruits dominate the taste.

3.5 M: Medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Bubbly on the tongue with a spicy finish.

3.75 D: Interesting beer with a flavor profile that isn't very common.

22oz bottle into my FW Imperial Nonic glass
Notes from 06/14/2015

A: The color is a sort of matted pale gold with a light murkiness strewn across the body. An ivory white swell of foam flows over the top and slowly slips back down to a crown around the rim. Some faint ribbons and dots of lace stay behind with every sip.

S: The pear and ginger are stand out here. Fresh and crisp on the nose with ripe green pear and ginger snap cookies. Has that bready cracker malt likeness backed up to it. There is a bit of lemony tartness to this as well and a light herbal spice on the back end. Smells alright. Delivers as advertised at least.

T: A peachy stone fruit medley of pear and apple charged with the spice of freshly grated ginger. Warming and slightly intense. A light sugary malt base adds in some whole grain cracker to help carry it all through. There is a moderate amount of bitterness that strikes mid palate fetching in some lemony orange citrus notes. Falls a bit short from there really. Finishes with more of that ginger spice warmth that tugs at the jowls.

M: Light and crisp feel with an upper amount of bubbly carb. Finish is very dry with some warming effects from the ginger.

D: So the wifey picked this one up and I see they encourage mixing for cocktails by design. Problem is as a standalone brew it’s just not very in depth or bringing anything special to the table. Just okay for me. Not something I would seek out again…even if for mixing. Probably would make for a nice Moscow Mule however.

For fans of um, pear and ginger. Not into mixology much as the bottle text suggests, but the beer can hold its own. After sampling beers and reviewing on BA for 13 years now, you might think theres nothing new to try. Then comes this.

Hazy straw color in the glass, light head, decent appearance.

The smell is mostly of soft wheat/grain with an almost floral pear sniff. A little nip of ginger but it can be easy to miss.

The base beer is an easy wheat type thing that would be sessionable on its own, though not very inspiring. The pear juice is sweet but not syrupy, and does not give way to the ginger until the aftertaste. A zingy finish, slow burn of spicy ginger like a peppered beer. Nice yin-yang with the pear and ginger. Very smooth feel, enhancing enjoyment and drinkability.

I like it but would probably only buy this again for a beer tasting due to its distinctiveness.
