New Belgium La Folie

Enjoyed on tap at Cafe Hollander on 5/10/14. Served chilled in a New Belgium stemmed tulip.

A) In the bar lighting this appeared to be brown with perhaps a little reddish tint. Not much head to speak of.

S) Nice and tart... Just what I was hoping for. Tart cherries and some sour apple. There is a bit of an earthy/oaky aroma as well.

T) The flavor comes across quite similar to the aroma, but slightly more pronounced. Loved the sour fruit flavor, blending with the oak. Malt comes into play, but stays in the background.

M) Medium bodied with the mouthwatering tingle you look for with a sour. Fairly dry finish.

O) Not sure what took me so long to try this beer. Glad I finally did, as it was quite enjoyable. Not quite as good as NG Wild Sour Ale, but I may grab a bottle of this for the cellar.

A - Muddy brown with ruby glow.

S - Sharp acidity.

T - Much fruitier than Red Poppy. It's much more balanced as a result with raspberries and a dry finish. Delicious.

M - Bang on.

O - Just a great beer. Really flavourful and well-rounded. I'd like a little more wood character to take it to the next level.

Serving Type- On tap poured into a tulip glass

Appearance- Pours deep ruby red with hints of brown, very little head

Smell- Apple cider vinegar, sour black cherries, acidity, sweet dark fruits

Taste- This is where this beer shines in my opinion, Tart, earthy, sour apple skins, dark cherries, some dark oak, tannin's, vinegar just an awesome sour and very classic for this style

Mouthfeel- High carbonation, dry and light body

Overall- One of the best sours I have ever had very solid if you have never had this beer its a must have...CHEERS
