Poured from a 22 oz. bottle into a New Belgium Globe glass. 2013 vintage bottle.

Appearance: Pours a dark brownish caramel amber with a moderate amount of bubbles. About one finger of off white head that fades into a thin patchy layer. Leaves a decent amount of lacing.

Smell: A ripe, tart, funky, and fruity aroma with some nice dark malt undertones. Belgian yeast with some hints of funk and pepper. Big scent of sour cherries with some Brett. Red wine barrel hints of oak and wood. Fruity hints of apples, pear, and banana. Solid bready malt presence with hints of sweet caramel, biscuit, yeast, and some chocolate. Dark fruit hints of plums, grapes, and raisin. Slight lemon zest hint. Sweet brown sugar scent. Subtle grassy hops in the background. A really good complex aroma.

Taste: As complex as it smells with a big combination of sour, funky, fruity, and malt flavors. Big taste of sour and tart cherries throughout with some Brett. Red wine barrel notes of oak and wood. Belgian yeast with notes of peppers and funk. Fruit taste of apples, pear, and banana. Dark fruit notes of plum, dark grapes, and raisin. Sweet and toasty malt presence with notes of caramel, bready biscuit, yeast, toffee, and chocolate. Also a little lemon zest. Brown sugar adds some sweetness. Light grassy hop taste towards the finish. A very good and complex taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a fairly high level of carbonation. Sour, zesty, fruity, and somewhat acidic feel. Balanced and smooth with a fairly drying finish.

Overall: A really great sour beer here. Bold but balanced. Good mix of sour fruit and funky flavors with the dark malt.

A - Ruby, full finger of cream head, dissipates quickly down down to around the rim, light lacing

S - Sour apple, brown sugar, oak, red wine, peach

T - Tart cranberry, green apple, red wine, oak, carmel. finish: oaky sourness-sour apple

M - Great carbonation, frothy, oaky fruits cover well

O - Whew! it is tart. But I love it. Mouthpuckering is correct. Exceptional after dinner beer. Funky and fizzy, very refreshing, light yet fulfilling. If you are a tart lover- the oakiness is very good - you will appreciate this throughly.
