Flowering Citrus AleFlowering Citrus Ale
Notes: No need to jet to Antwerp when you can open up a bouquet of Flowering Citrus Ale. Thanks to our friends at De Koninck Brewery, we brewed up a summery ale bursting with key lime and whole lemons that mingle with the fragrance of hibiscus, rose petals and strawberry-tinged Mistral hops. Open up and let Belgian summer bloom.

12 oz bottle, with "enjoy by" dating that's impossible to diceifer.

Pours lightly hazed, lighter near golden Amber...leaves some fine bits and mini fields of sheeting

Nose is filled with fruit, apples, lemons, pears

Fruity Belgian style pale ale, more apples, pears, and lemony goodness throughout. Pleasing and went well with a mix of grilled meats....would be great with some funky cheese and sliced fruits....enjoyable and well crafted creation.

12 ounce bottle - $4.49 at Total Wine & More in Kennesaw, Georgia.

Appearance: Pours a nearly clear, gold-hued body with a near white, slim-sized head.

Smell: Peppery spices and an earthy, lightly musty yeastiness is prevalent. It's citrusy, but a somewhat stale citrus character, with a slight tangy twang. Muted base maltiness beneath.

Taste: A soft pale maltiness, a bit crackery, a bit hinting of biscuit innards. Slightly sweetish. A taste of lime, though not the lively zip of a fresh lime, more like that two-week old lime where, no, it's not bad, but it certainly ain't that good taste. The lime moves to lemon. Lightly bitter. Not much hibiscus showing through, and, if it's there, it's difficult to discern, as all the flavors just sort of jumble together, leaving the beer to come across as a bit kitchen sink-y. Slightly tangy, tongue-coating finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-light body. Medium-low carbonation.

Overall: I didn't care for it. I could not make out the Enjoy By date whatsoever, though, having not enjoyed it, the date wouldn't have mattered anyhow.

Pours an effervescent honey color with 3 fingers of ivory colored head. Great lacing & head retention

S: Pear, white grape & Golden Delicious apple

T: Golden Delicious apple, white grape, a little lemon up front. A little orange peel & mango surface as this warms, some green melon too, some floral notes I'm guessing from the Hibiscus. Finishes with slight grassiness, a little pear & white grape, some white pepper too

MF: Medium body, delicate carbonation

Drinks very easy, a decent beer well worth a go

On draught at iTap CWE. Pours clear golden, white heads fades quickly to sticky lace. Citrusy flowery aroma, carried into the taste. Balanced by sweet malt, light body, subtle Belgian style yeast. Clean finish. Well hidden alcohol, not really a session beer althoughit goes down very easy.

On-tap 11/8/2016 at Julian’s in Providence, RI, served in a flute glass.

A: The beer is a light gold color, with a large white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma is faint but contains citrus, light caramelized malts and a touch of hops.

T: The taste starts out with mildly tart flavors of citrus and other fruits. Then some mild breadiness comes in from a light malt character. The hops presence is very mild and brings a little balance. The after-taste is slightly tart.

M: Crisp and a little smooth, light-to-medium body, medium carbonation, finish is dry and slightly sticky.

O: A little tasty, goes down ok, not too filling, good kick, decent representation of style, this is a just a mediocre beer overall.

Poured into a custom shaped pint glass: color is gold, head is bright white, presents 1/2 inch thick and dissipates to a thin top, a little hazy.

Smell is a blend of citrus with subtle yeast off flavors, light biscuit.

Taste brings forth more malt, light but noticeable with cracker and biscuit, then full citrus flavor with lemon prominent, and then moderate hops with a very floral bent. There are some very interesting under current flavors, some have mentioned elderflower and touch of belgian yeast phenol and sourness. The lemon is prominent, but it seems to provide great cover a for a beer of this strength.

Mouthfeel is pleasant and floral with moderate carbonation and light flavor.

12oz bottle. Poured out a clear, golden amber color with a small, white head of bubbly foam. It left sticky rings of lace on the glass. It smelled of citrus fruit, floral notes and biscuity malt. Sweet citrusy taste with caramel, toffee and a fruity sweetness.

Starts out promising enough, looks good, smells good, but it goes down hill from there. The flavor is citrusy in a generic way and finishes overly sweet with a touch of key lime character.

I tried this on tap at Al's Pizza and Subs in the Summerdale shopping center served chilled in a pint. T
The color is a pale golden/green hued with light haze and white head with good retention and small bead. The smell is somewhat phenolic with a yeast smell and herbal odor with a light medicinal scent. The feel is good yet dry with moderately high carbonation and low sweetness with light spice in texture and mild alcohol influence with dry finish.

The taste is decent, the flavor of yeast has a semi-fruity and spice-like character with citrus astringency in the middle with a moderately bitter quality in the backend with semi-dry yet light citrus taste in finish with floral quality adding soft earthen taste. This is a good beer which does not at all taste like 7+% it is refreshing but the yeast kind of clashes with the citrus in my opinion, worth a try

A well-crafted beer to be sure, but not a style that appeals to me, Quite tart/sour on the palate, trending in the direction of a gose or a sour. Not my cup of tea. From a 12oz bottle with a completely illegible "enjoy by" date.
