a new one from these guys, but i dont know that its the best showcase of these now trendy hops that i have seen. the beer appears to be modeled on some of the east coast hazy hoppy types, but it ends up looking murky and thick and even a little greenish tinted from the tap. the head is nice though, the beer is visibly well carbonated, and nice and lacey. the hops are less fruity in the nose than i know them to be in other beers that strive to develop this character of theirs, they seem sort of generic here, definitely new school and juicy fruity, but not so distinct, and thats true with the flavor too. there is an earthy woodiness about this, a heaviness derived from the grain that i think interferes with the real juiciest aspect of the hops, its not all that easy drinking of a beer in that sense. bitterness may be a little overdeveloped, and in the end, this tastes more like a test batch of something progressing towards a release, maybe not quite refined enough to stand on its own yet. less bittering, more dry hop would help, the malt could be scaled back a touch, and it needs at least a little cleaning up of all this sediment...

Definitely mandarin as I get some of the pith bitterness. More "orangey" of course than other voodoo rangers.

Hazy amber with pure white foam in the Brigand chalice. Pleasingly sudsy on the tongue. Interesting fruity aroma with a citrus note. Thick and malty in the mouth. A murkier sort of flavor.
Some warm malt. Melon and cucumber flavors. Then woody along with the blackberry seeds and grape stems. Kind of a resiny, gummy taste in the back of the throat. Bitter aftertaste with an unpleasant astringency. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at Grapevine Liquors in Denver.
