New Belgium Brewing Co. "Tartastic Lemon Ginger Sour"
12 fl. oz. brown glass bottle, "ENJOY BY: 12NOV17" and sampled on 25JUL17
$2 @ Weis Market, Conshohocken, PA

Notes via stream of consciousness: A rough pour brings up a short head of bright white that fades almost immediately, not unlike a soda pop. The body is a hazy yellow gold. Both the haze and the lack of head retention are OK given that it's a sour beer, but I've also had sour beers that have had much better head retention and left some nice lacing whereas there's no lacing at all here. The aroma is a little funky with citrus rind or pith, kind of mineralish in my opinion. It's like lemon juice mixed into beer. Well, I guess in a way it is... it's actual lemon and ginger and I appreciate that. The flavor follows and the lemon is lighter than I thought it would be, and the ginger is fairly soft as well. You can taste it and there's a little bit of spiciness but it's a fairly mild beer overall, it's not that tart. The malt is like wheaty bread and it balances nicely. This is much better than I thought it would be. It's got a low-level carbonation that helps to smooth it, and it's medium to medium-light in body. It finishes dry with acidity as some residual malt fades. I'm not finding hops in here anywhere but that's OK for what it is. I could easily see drinking a few of these at some event on a hot day, but at the same time it's really not that interesting with the somewhat muted lemon and ginger.

12 oz. bottle -

Pours lemon-drop yellow with a head that disappears. Virtually no lacing.

The smell is of some lemon with wet cracker.

The taste is of wet cracker with lemon that almost tastes like lemon dish soap. There is a touch of ginger. Abrupt finish.

It is light-bodied. A bit fizzy.

Some tart, but lemon seems artificial. Ginger barely there. This is not this brewery's greatest beer by any means.

Love New Belgium, been a long time supporter of this brewery. Bought from Total Wine on 7/3, 12oz single bottle, dated 17 September 2017.

Look: Pours pale, lemony yellow, barely any head, dissapates within a few seconds, the first thing that comes to mind is cloudy lemonade.

Smell: Wheat, lemon, and wet dog, no ginger on the nose.

Taste: Fizzy and sharp, followed immediately by malt and wheat, pleasant, but not overpowering, gives way to a faint ginger/wheat aftertaste.

Feel: Light and refreshing. The wheat comes forward here and can be moderately cloying, but overall pleasant in the mouth.

Overall: Solid sour offering from New Belgium. The disappointment here is on smell and sour taste, I just wanted a little more than I got out of it. I would consider buying this again, but I prefer Anderson Valley's sours, or some local offerings. If you're just looking for a crushable sixer with more flavor than a pack of light beer, buy it, you won't be disappointed.

Pours a hazy murky light yellow with no head. Nose is of faint lemon, and sour. Taste of a very light sour lemon juice, ginger ale and grass. Watery body and mouthfeel. Not much feeling of a beer with this one more like a hard lemonade crossed with a hard ginger beer. Not my thing but alright for what it was I guess

This brew smells like tart lemonade. Interesting. The appearance is a hazy straw color. Slim head. The taste is lemonade like as well. Light ginger spice and lots of ginger, backed by a sugary malty sweetness. Tart, but drinkable. Interesting.
