There’s a funky or metallic taste that overwhelms that I just can’t place and don’t really like. One of my first imperial IPA’s so it could be a style thing.

Poured from a 19.2 ounce can into my tall Ayinger glass.

Look - Crystal clear gorgeous bronze body with a massive long lasting white cloud of a head. Leaves a kingly crown of foam on top.

Smell - A lot fainter than I'd expect from an imperial IPA. Slight resiny pine, hints of citrus. The usual IPA suspects, nothing really jumps out.

Taste - Very potent peppery cracker malt flavor with the hops taking a background support role. A little bit of alcohol bite to finish.

Feel - Medium body and a mild pokey carbonation. Real good mouth feel, fits the flavor well.

Overall - If it had a more present odor, this would be much better than it already is, but this is quite a good beer. For $2 out of the cooler, this was a great buy.

Unknown age out of a can into a pint glass. Gorgeous crisp gold color, very clear, with a frothy 2 finger head, good retention. Medium carbon, not too much but just enough. Nose hints of fermented tangerine, oranges, and pine, with some nice grassy hop florals. The taste is very bitter up front, with a strong hop punch in the face, followed by some funky fruit tones, finishing with a nice fermented citrus that rounds out with some very enjoyable (and pungent) pine flavors. The mouthfeel is surprisingly bold considering the clarity of the brew.

This is a kick-in-the-face Imperial IPA, it is very bitter and very strong at 9% ABV, but I enjoy it. A good crisp (and mighty dangerous) hop fix for any time of year in my opinion. Not for those who are IBU sensitive!

Visual: Beautiful clear golden color with a little over a finger of white head.
Smell: Large pine and mild citrus aromas, not much alcohol on the nose for a beer at 9%
Taste: Complex hop and citrus turns into refreshing pine. Very smooth mouth feel with somewhat low carbination.
Overall: A refreshing and complex IPA that can always have a place in my fridge.

Look: Medium gold, surprisingly light colored.
Smells like California.
Taste: Pine resin, cedar, slight citrus, light brown sugar, sharp bitterness.
Overall, it’s a nice sipper. One and done, so to speak. At 9% more than one might not be a good idea. The abv is fairly well hidden, I noticed it most as a slight burn in the lower belly. It’s a great example of the style.

It looks, smells and laces like a commercial American lager. There's more hops present, of course. There's an even bigger taste of alcohol. A bit rough going down, I'll do this again when I need a cheap buzz.

Poured into a tall clear pint glass. Has a nice deep nutty amber color with about a finger and a half of creamy white head. Good retention and lacing.

In the aroma, citrus, tropical fruit, and pine are the main actors. Smelling some sweet malts, a bread malt, and overall smells very sweet and fruity.

Taste is definitely more bitter, hoppy, and grassy than the aroma would suggest. Can taste the bread malt much easier. With tasting any fruit in here, I'm mainly only tasting grapefruit. Boozy. Bitter aftertaste. Body is medium-light to medium.

Very, very nice beer. I bought a six pack of this and got through four. After two, my vision started blurring it's so strong, I mean, this has more abv than a steel reserve. I can see why people would love this. it's that very enjoyable west coast ipa experience everybody loves. Just be sure to stay hydrated while drinking this, i'm not even kidding. It imparts a powerful hangover. Fresh cut pine is what you'll find with this one, in a good way. Colossal offering from New Belgium. Very good beer drinking experience with this one.

Interesting that I haven't written about this before as I'm sure I've had it. Very pale color compared to most and very clear too with lots of bubble action. Full white head caps the golden color.
Not an overwhelming hop aroma. More clean and fruitful.
Clean taste too with hop complexity that is strong but not intense and certainly not overpowering. Fairly dry on the soft bittering and lingering finish.
Hops are mixed with more grassiness than most DIPA's but there is a solid fruit presence too.
This is fine and esp. for the price, it's worth it.

Very nice looking beer. Clear with a nice sustaining head. This is a high ABV beer coming in at 9%. It has a hot alcohol feel. The aftertaste reminds me of grain alcohol. I wish this beer had more of a malt body to it to hold up the high ABV and hops. The best flavor came with the burps after drinking it. Great beer to get smashed on but not something I would go out of my way to get.

From a 16 oz tall boy with a best by date of 31 May 2020. Sampled on April 9, 2020.

Attractive, traditional golden colored pour with a lasting white head. Good clarity. Not murky like a NEIPA.

The aroma knocked me back a little because my first impression was a sort of melted cheese sensation Low booze but I picked some up. Herbal and fruity notes too.

Medium body.

Even though I am trying this before the BB date, it seems a bit stale. Or that might just be the booziness of this beer coming through in the flavor. I get that more than the lower profile herbal and floral hop notes. But I do not think the higher booze would have allowed this to sit for another year. I think it still would have been stale. To quote the Beatles; "Not a Second Time."

Pours a nice burnished golden color with finger of bone colored head. Nice lacing left behind.

Smell is like citrus and tropical fruit. Pine is found far in the background.

Taste is just a bit of citrus and a hint of pine bitterness. Seems like a heavy malt forward beer with hops added as a background note. The taste balance is O.K. but I get more sweet malts over the hops.

Mouth feel is as expected. Medium mouth and a bit chewy. With a pretty good easy going finish. Do feel some of the booziness from the 9% ABV.

Glad I bought it to try it beer. That is where I would put this one. New Belgium really fly's around the dart board with their beers. Seems like they are always trying for something new. While I give them credit for that I have had some beers from them that should have been checked over by their flavor department first. This beer however is pretty good. The beer to me like I have previously said would best be said to be a sweet malt beer with some nice hops added in. That balanced IPA I really do not find in here. The booze is definitely present here as well. Cheers!

Drank from a 12oz bottle. It pours an orange/amber color, with a great head retention. Smells of grapefruit, oranges, and peach. Obviously smells very citrus-y, juice-y, and fruit-y.
Upon drinking it I was immediately hit with a giant phenol and resin-y taste, completely overwhelming any other flavor profiles of this beer. I can taste notes of oranges, grapefruit, and pine towards the end. Slightly Spicy. But again, has an overwhelming phenol taste that I just can't get over, completely ruined this beer for me. In terms of mouthfeel, it has a moderate amount of carbonation and dryness, it was fine, but forgettable. To be honest, I had a hard time finishing this beer... It smells tropical and fruity, but it barely tastes how it smells. Not very good..

Gold/amber color. Thick off-white head, plenty of lace.
Dank aroma, pine. Sweet malt.
Citrus taste up front, late pine. Caramel background.
More malt-forward than hoppy.

12-oz bottle into Samuel Smith "Tulip" pint glass

A - 4 fingers of off-white over a slightly-hazy body of golden amber; medium/high visible carbonation; nice rings of lace on the glass and great retention

S - pine, citrus, touch of tropical fruit

T - pine, citrus, tropical fruit, maybe a touch of floral, booze, light caramel sweetness, bready backbone, dry boozy finish

M - smooth medium/full body, medium/high carbonation

O - very good IPA; on the boozy side perhaps, but what do you expect at 9%?

1 PINT 3.2 FL. OZ can
Served in an IPA glass

This beer pours a brilliant amber hue. It is topped with several inches of beige head that leaves some decent lacing.

The aroma is dank with some pine.

It starts out sweet and citrusy. The finish is bitter with pine.

Medium bodied with a smooth mouthfeel

It is nice to have a quality beer in the singles section of my gas station cooler. I didn't have to grab a three pack of Natty Daddys this time. Although this is only 50¢ cheaper than a three pack of Natty Daddys. Hmmm

Overall it was not a bad brew but it was not as flavorful as I had hoped. Yes, you can certainly tell that the alcohol content is there but that is not a bad thing. One should expect that with this brew. Upon opening the beer it gave off a slight floral aroma. I had thought it might have been stronger. The look of the beer is a clear slightly-dark amber in nature, like ginger ale. Near the end, it looks like a shot of whiskey. Lacing was good but no real foamy-head to speak of. Upon tasting, it snaps at the tongue, being sharp around the edges. Not a brew for everyone, but a brew that would go good with a grilled steak.

Poured from a 12oz Bottle: Pours a deep Honey/Amber color with a foamy 2.5 finger head that quickly vanishea. Decent amount of lacing. Green Earthy Notes of Pine, Hops and Citrus are evident by the smell. The smell is on point with the taste of this brew. With a bready/yeasty taste mixed with a hint of banana followed by the citrusy-tart from the hops and taste of alcohol; Voodo Ranger Imperial IPA is a stout, yet smooth drink for 9% ABV

This tastes like shit.

Looks fine, nice amber color. Smells like sweet, chemically plastic. On taste I get notes of caramel and funky banana or orange that's been smoked. Flavor does not hide the high alcohol content at all and it just winds up ruining it (and I'm someone who loves high alcohol). Somehow too sweet and then too bitter. This is the first beer I've tried that I've disliked this much. Maybe if I come back to it it will improve but yuck.

Situation: Woodworking in the backyard under 70 degree sun for a 30 minutes.
Pour: One pint can poured into a wine glass.
Head: Rocky 2 inch head that took five minutes to dissipate. Good lacing.
Color: Dark copper, very clear and slightly darker than voodoo IPA
Aroma: A very green raw smell, some fruity notes of mangoes, and unfiltered raw cane sugar (jaggery), very similar to voodoo IPA
Taste: Fruity, sweet, a bit salty (savory). Not as thick and syrupy as Voodoo IPA.
Carbonation: Light
Would drink again? No.

Poured from a bottle to a standard inexpensive shaker glass. Available in Houston for $8.99 ($7.99 till recently) from your local beer emporium and less if you buy a 12-pack from certain local grocery stores.

Look is excellent. This is the only brew where I've spent time watching the bubbles spiral up from the bottom of the glass to the surface. Well done!

Smell - not good. Maybe it's me, but my advice is don't buy this brew for the smell.

Taste - great taste for the price. Depending on your taste buds the high ABV may be obvious.

Feel - Sorry, but I don't care. Nothing particularly good or bad with the mouth feel.

Used to be one of my favorites, just got tired of the taste after a while. I prefer the "regular" VD IPA which is still $7.99 and worth every penny.
