20oz can dated "19 march 2023". (today is 11/20/22).

Look - Didn't pour
Smell - Pine dominates. Fresh a.f. pine forest. Subtle melon and lime - surprisingly complex.
Taste - "Malt liquor IPA" is close but it's really not bad. High gravity for sure - but the mildly smokey, chocolatey malt keeps it interesting.
Feel - More creamy than O.E.!

Appearance: Pours a clear golden color with Amber colors hues. A somewhat retentive, soapy, white foam head.

Aroma: Malty, boozy, with a little bit of pine, and some light hints of banana and citrus fruit peel.

Taste: A strong malt backbone, very subtle fruitiness that fades into a boozy, bitter finish.

Overall: This beer isn't bad. With that said, I just wished it were a little better balanced. The maltiness scores against the drinkability on this one.

L: Clear amber body with an off-white head. Good retention.

S: Light grapefruit and pine

T: Pine and citrus supported by a caramel malt backbone

F: Light bodied for the ABV, good carbonation

O: Not bad by any measure, but I’d expect more oomph given the high ABV

High alcohol beer at a good price. Tastes good without a high alcohol taste. If you like to drink beer and get a buzz without filling up on high volumes, this is a go to.

Had Voodoo Ranger Imperial IPA poured from 19.2-oz. can, bottom stamped enjoy by "16 OCT 2022," into nonic pint.

Pours amber-gold with clarity and huge off-white or even very light-tan head, with excellent retention, leaving Belgian lace etched down the glass. Aromas of grassy hops and mild malt off pour, then some mild hop spice and fruit (melon, fresh berries, lime) join, and finally pine predominates. Begins fruity (melon and sweet stone fruits) and smooth, then hop bite kicks in, and carries the fruit into a huge, bitter, piney finish.

With the malts felt rather than tasted, this big, bitter, fruity and undeniably piney IPA is reminiscent of the early "San Diego" West Coast IPAs.

Poured from a bottle into a Pint glass.
The beer is a medium amber with 3 fingers of white head. Retention is great leaving a finger of foam after 5 minutes.
Aroma is somewhat below medium in strength. The smell has pine, grapefruit and tropical fruit.
Flavor is somewhat above medium in strength. The flavor has malt, pine and a moderate hoppy bitter finish. There's a bit of alcohol flavor and heat.
Feel is medium-high in thickness, creamy and slightly chewy. Carbonation and astringency are low.
Overall, it's okay. The flavor is very unremarkable bordering on boring making the outstanding look and feel seem unimportant.

Higher hopes for this as I'm digging a bunch of the old-school IPAs back on shelves recently. It's good for sure, and has some nice piney notes and hop bitterness. Just seems a bit one-dimensional or lacking in something.

I should have known better by the marketing of this beer. It was sold as a discounted 12-pack of cans at a supermarket for $16.99, same price as the regular Voodoo Ranger IPA. In addition, the can has NO other information, nothing about how great it is, what kinds of hops, etc. "Imperial" usually equates to something big and special, this one has none of that. This one is nothing special except having a high ABV. I'd call this an IPA Malt Liquor - maybe this should be a new category.

19.2 oz stovepipe, straight out the can, store beer cooler cold.
Smell is tropical, grapefruity, a bit of pine hop and a definate malt note.
Taste is pretty standard old-skool IPA, it’s a little bitter, pretty smooth and straightforward, but there’s something offputting that I have to figure out. Maybe it’s the short and unremarkable finish?
Mouthfeel is medium with average carbonation.
Overall, a good driving companion, refreshing, with a little bite of hop and alcohol.

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a medium golden amber with hints of copper and a three finger white head with great retention and solid lacing. Aroma of lightly caramel malt, citrus and piney hops, orange, grapefruit, pine and some light mixed tropical fruit. Flavor is caramel and biscuit malt, citrus and piney hops, orange, lemon, grapefruit, pine and mild mixed stone fruit. Solid finishing bitterness. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. I saw a single of this and realized I've never reviewed this widely distributed and popular IPA; I didn't notice until I got home that this is actually the less common imperial version, but it still needed a review. Haven't had a New Belgian beer in a long time, but found them generally satisfactory and too style. This is too. Both the base malt and hops remind me of fairly old fashioned IPAs from the time when English ales inspired most of the innovation here. For me, that's a plus, I'm still stuck on malty IPAs and a sucker for the classic citrus/pine flavors. There's nothing new here, but it's a well made, malty IPA and I like it. I'm inspired to pick up the lighter version for a try.

19.2 ounce (500 ml) can, best before date of 11 SEP 2022 stamped on the bottom. Served in a Spiegelau IPA glass, the beer pours a clear gold color with about an inch or so off-white head that stuck around a while. There's also a good amount of lacing. The brew smells like tropical fruit, grapefruit, piney hops and some bready malt. I think the taste is pretty much just like the aroma, but with the addition of a slight bitter floral/herbal hoppiness noticeable in the finish. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it's a bit coating and easy to drink with a good amount of soft carbonation. I thought this was a good overall brew, worth a try!

A great way to make an IPA taste less bitter and hoppy is to make it an imperial. The higher alcohol and sweetness serve to counteract the bitterness, and that's the case with this beer. Normal Voodoo Ranger IPA is fairly bitter, but this one is better balanced as a result of the imperialism, to incorrectly use the term. In any event, this one is a little different than the glut of IPAs on the market, and it's worth seeking out even if you don't normally like IPAs.

Stove pipe can from Circle K gas station.
$2.99
It has a crappy Best By date..i assume on the bottom.(21 August 22)
Pours a pretty nicely clear gold..pretty light for a traditional IIPA. Huge frothy off white head.
Smell is awful! Fart and cardboard..then maybe a wee bit of pine.
Taste not as bad as the aroma..but as near to tasteless as an IIPA can get. Some pine a bit of floral hops ..bit of light malt and that is it. Its not bad..just nothing.
Mouth feel is fine..
Bland..how can this be a 9% DIPA?
