Sipping this while smoking a turkey and pleasantly surprised how well it pairs with a cool autumn day. Nice dark golden hue, smaller white head with moderate lacing. Decent mouthfeel and very smooth hop profile. For the style this is much easier drinking than many others, and deceptively sneaky. Its actually a bit lighter than a standard IPA in hoppiness but obviously due to being an imperial has a pretty good kick. Be careful (or not), it's great.

I've been a long time beeradvocate user. I've spent more time than I'd like to admit in liquor stores reading beer reviews before purchases. No beer has inspired me to write a review before this. As a new transplant from Colorado I was happy to see this brew on the shelf at most convenience stores in Austin, Texas. Nice to see New Belgium is widely available and popular. I think I even saw a billboard with the voodoo ranger mascot recently. The flavor is almost like a cross between an ipa and a stout. Not much of the overwhelming floral flavor of most ipas. Definitely my favorite beer from New Belgium. My girlfriend and I call it danger juice because it's so strong and really smooth. Dangerously easy to drink. Definitely worth a try if you're a seasoned drinker.

I don’t care for many IPA’s. Overall I find many of them unbalanced and unpleasant both in the nose and on the palate. Usually lacking character and simply screaming of Hop’s. But this one is unique.

Sure it’s aggressive. It packs a punch at 9%, but it pairs well spicy foods; very well. Not some thing a bottle of wine is going to do for you.

This is not something I crave just to drink, that is not it’s strength. What makes it unique is it’s quick release of the Hop overtones and how it cleans and cools the palate with the right foods. Which makes the drinker ready for more of the same.

I will leave the flowing rhetoric of adjectives and metaphors to others. This is just a good beer when “HOT ‘n SPICY” food is on the table.

My closest beer stop does not have the greatest craft beer selection, and only a few IPA selections. Luckily, this is one of them. A gorgeous amber pour and dank fruitiness on the pour, it offers a great balance between hops bitterness and grain. And there's a heavy alky content here to make one a happy chap pretty quickly. It also makes this one dangerously deceptive...a few can sneak up on you pretty quickly without really thinking about it. Probably one of the better "meat and potatoes" compliment I've tried recently. Much respect.

Did I just drink a bottle of DIPA?
Deceptively light on the tongue, fruity and somewhat lightly bitter at the start. Extremely well balanced. Comes in a 12 pack of bottles. Made me happy.

Looks great in a glass, nice color and foam. Lots of ipa tang and tastes, all good. I like it real cold in a frozen glass but that's just me. Just as good as it sits a bit. Does not show the alcohol so you need the governor on.

Year-Round Release - Single
19.2 oz. can dated 210731 (07/31/21) - 9% ABV / 70 IBU
Brewed and canned in Fort Collins, CO or Asheville, NC
Poured into a Bell's branded pub pint glass

Look - Pours a pretty thick white head that lingers and leaves lacing. Golden see-through appearance with lots of streaming bubbles.
Smell - Very faint citrus hop smell. As it warms, you pick up a nice, juicy melon scent.
Taste - Strong piney hop bitterness upfront with a lingering malty aftertaste. The alcohol is well hidden.
Feel - Medium body with a juicy mouthfeel. Prickly carbonation and alcohol burn on the tail end.
Overall - Very dank on first taste, but flavors disappear quickly. Dangerously easy to drink because the high alcohol is covered up well.

Drink by 10/24/2021. A fairly solid double IPA. For me, a reliable offering when local pickings are on the slim side. This is a delightful find when most of the other offerings are macro brewed pale lagers.
Alcohol bite is a bit strong. Hops are herbal and bitter. Not getting much in the way of tropical notes but I find some pineapple in there. Scratches the IPA itch.

Pint can. Nice pour with medium amber color, clear lacy head.. the smell is not pronounced with hints of malt and hops. Malt and hops balance out. There is no alcohol bite. The flavors fade to strong bitter aftertaste. The hops are non distinct. It ‘s ok but not my cup of tea. I prefer distinctly bitter or floral, this is neither.

Pours a clear gold, with a one inch head that quickly fades. Smells very piney, somewhat over powering any other smells except a light, rich malt aroma. Taste is also very piney, and bitter. Not much malt in the taste to speak of. However it doesn’t have that terrible bitter aftertaste like many imperials and W/C and NE IPAs can leave you with. It diminishes rather quickly which I appreciate in a beer as bitter as this. Can’t hardly tell there’s 9% alcohol. It feels like an IPA should, bubbly but smooth, and easy to swallow. Overall, I’m not a big fan of Imperial variations in general, and when it comes to IPAs I’m a hazy guy, but I like this one better than many I’ve had before, just not my style generally.

Pours a clear rich amber color. Smells like a good beer and smells of Mosaic hops and strong malt. Taste follows the nose and it tastes of Mosaic and strong malt. A delicious combination. Mouthfeel is a full, clean and is not too bitter. Overall a good strong style of an IPA. A stovepipe can best by date of 03 OCT 2021.

Pours a clear amber color with a good white head which lingers. Floral aroma in the nose with pine, hops. Taste follows the nose but is a little unbalanced on the lingering bitterness which leaves a bite at the finish. Ok beer but I’ve had better ones from New Belgium including their VR branded series.

Clear amber color with a nice foamy head that eventually subsides to just a ring that hangs on for the duration and produces some nice lacing on the way down.

The aroma is pine resin, tropical fruit, with a sweet malt background.

The taste is pine and grapefruit up front, followed quickly by a fruity sweetness that balances nicely. The finish is dry with a lingering peppery note.

The body is medium, very smooth, creamy and satisfying.

Altogether this is a very enjoyable IPA.

Pours bronze amber with thick frothy foamy cap. Light on the nose but an explosion of hops and bursting pine and citrus make this imperial DIPA a solid brew at 9% ABV and 70 ABU’s. Not for the non-IPA drinkers.

(19.2 oz can, 22 Aug 2021; purchased cold single... poured into a proper pint, as suggested from their site)

L: polished-clear, near-tawny, bronzed-amber colored liquid; spitty, glossy foam, with mild-moderate retention... head doesn't hold; one measly, broken lace streak at the top

S: again, like the standard, just a whole-flower, earthy 'hop' aroma dominating, though in this case, more a spiced (gum drop?), candy-like, dried fruit (mango, again) character... decent intensity, though perhaps a tad hollow in the middle

T: spiced floral (violet?) essence with a note of dark berry, front-to-back; subtle underlying toasted grain, but little sweetness... dry, lightly-peppery aftertaste, again with the berry-floral tone lingering... almost a malt-liquor-esque high-ester / fusel thread... its bitterness (and hop expression) is a b-level parody of Stone

F: dry floor, but the resins start creeping in, layering in thin sheets with each sip, cordial-smooth boozy hearth glow slowly stoking... mellow alcohol-resin bolstering of roundness to its initial contact; the finish is warm, but has no tail... the bitterness may be adding enough stunning influence to obfuscate a flat, shapeless texture

O: like the standard, stark cuts and stripped of depth... maybe the proper pint shape is not ideal?, but the volume warrants it... bold, pungent, mildly arresting, but devoid of moreish qualities, unless clinical hop distillate upon malted water is your game...dumped it halfway through (1771)

Pale golden color, brilliantly clear. Pours a huge creamy white head with good retention.

Pleasant hop aroma pokes through the head, with a nice fruit/pine kind of blend. Also a bit of malty sweetness, and a slight hit of alcohol.

Big tropical fruit flavor up front, amplified by the copious malt. On the sweet and fruity side early. A subtle earthy bitterness and alcohol kick in late, and dry out the finish. Is malty and hoppy, yet doesn't feel overpowering. Quite drinkable for a 9% IPA.

Medium plus body, fairly high carbonation. No astringency, but a bit of alcoholic warming.

A pretty beer with a nice, smooth hop character.

12oz bottle. Enjoy date on label is '06JUN21'.
Clear, deep gold colored body. Brief one finger head, which becomes partial cap. Some blocks of lacing.
Aroma of citrus, with a little pine. Smells sweet.
Taste is tropical mango, and citrus of grapefruit and orange, and some pine. Slight bitterness but more sweet. Same mix extends into the aftertaste.
Medium mouth feel, with slight syrup from the higher ABV%. Very good carbonation.
Higher ABV% is expressed in the aroma, taste and feel, but works well with the flavor profile. Crisp for this higher ABV%. Slight alcohol burn adds to the profile. Slower sipper but rewarding with balanced flavor and feel.

I like the can. The citrus flavor does come through. At first I could smell cannabis but that's probably just me. You really have to dig deep for the pine to come through. Good and long lasting aftertaste. It's just not really my type of beer. Still worth a try though.

Clear copper color with generous creamy head with good retention. Aroma of pine, fruit, lemon zest, mango, candy malts. Well balanced flavor. The hop flavor extinguishes quickly followed by a warming malt flavor. Slightly creamy mouthfeel. Slightly warming alcohol presence. Totally, a bargain beer at only $3.50 for a pint. Would be good for packing a couple of these on a backpacking trip.

12oz bottle received as a gift from a friend. ENJOY BY: 27JUN21

Look: Pours a crystal clear medium orange color. Lots of bubbles quickly rising up from the stem of the glass. There is a thin fluffy white head with very compact bubbles.

Smell: The nose is bursting with pine and some underlying tropical fruit aromas (mango, papaya) along with more conventional notes like candied orange peel, grapefruit zest, and and apricot. Nice, but nothing spectacular.

Taste: For a 9% ABV imperial IPA, this is surprisingly drinkable. It's west coast style through and through. This is crisp and clean with a piney, resinous bitter finish that lingers long but not too long. A lot of spicy, peppery notes on the finish as well. Your palate feels refreshed with dryness and you are eager to take anoter sip. While it is very drinkable for its size, I think that it's a bit too much for me in terms of this beer being so hop forward and there not being much else to counterbalance the hops. I love hops and hoppy beers, and the hoppy beers that I enjoy the most usually have either fruity or juicy or acidic or yeasty elements to interplay with those hoppy elements. This beer is all hops all the time, with a bit of malty sweetness and piney/tropical/citrus aroma.

Feel: Medium plus body. Has a slick, oily mouthfeel.

Overall: This is not my favorite style of beer, but I can certainly appreciate that this is a well-made beer. There are other west coast imperial IPAs that I have enjoyed more. I might like the non-imperial Voodoo Ranger IPA more.

Look is a darker bronze color, lacing galore as the beer is drank. The smell is of piney hops, citrus, grapefruit. Taste follows the nose, booziness is not noticeable on this 9% beer. Overall, one of the best in the category, it really defied my original expectations of it as a cheap imitation IIPA.

Pours a crystal clear burnished bronze color. Quite effervescent with a pillowy thick 4 finger white head. Head recedes until just a thin layer of foam remains on top of the beer. Lots of sticky lacing coats the glass as the beer is consumed. Aroma has notes of pine, earthy vegetation and some caramel malts. There is almost a slight woodiness to the hops coming through on the nose.

Taste has notes of pine, grapefruit, generic citrus, earthy vegetation and some light woody notes all on the backdrop of a caramel malt backbone. Moderate lingering bitterness, but well balanced overall. A light sweetness comes through, but its again, very balanced. Feel is modem bodied for the style. Smooth, and easy to drink. Lively, but gentle carbonation.

Overall this is a really nice imperial IPA. Balanced and accessible is how I would describe it.
