Clear gold-amber, finger and a half of tiny and medium bubbles, lacing is fine, bubble streams rising easy on the eyes.

Smells of sweet, malty pine.

Taste follows the nose, slightly crisp and way creamy, followed by the tasty hop tempest,
with lingering citrus-caramel notes in it's biter, booze-burn wake.

Glad brewers are still finding new accents within the prevalent IPA field. This Ranger's Voodoo is strong, challenging.
Someone else mentioned it's "Smokey" aspect. Exceptional call.

It pours amber with a thick head. Intense hoppy aroma with lots of pine and resinous notes. The taste is bitter upfront with some malts coming through later. A fairly nice DIPA.

Pours a dark but translucent amber

Smells of straw and strongly of hops, when I first cracked the bottle before I poured into a nonic I noticed a smoky smell

The people who are saying this is a bland ipa are way too f@#&ing high,, this has dank hops and a unique smokey/sour taste that's exemplary

A solid brew

- Spiegelau ipa glass.

A: Medium dark orange with a good clarity, similar to their 8 hop pale. Slow paced effervesce, generously spaced, with a big frothy cottage white head standing one inch proud. Capping had nice resistance, while leaving a decent spiderweb like lacing on the glass.

S: Light citrus, pine and toasted grains on the nose. Very low awareness, their 8 hop, which i previously had, seemed to have a lot more strength.

T: Flavor was grassy-dried citrus hops, somewhat bitter with a dry toasted backing. Tart orange peel, again, not much in the range of complexity or boldness.

M: Fairly crisp mouthful, frothy on the hold, medium low carbonation with a light hop warming.

O: While moderately hopped, I thought it was still somewhat, dare i say, boring to indulge in, flavor-wise. It takes a lot for me to go sub 3.5 on almost anything IPA, much less Imperial status, but was left a bit disappointed in what was nothing more then a low budget ipa entry with a basic flavor from a more notable brewery, which is held by most in high regards for their beers. I was left a little shoulder shrugged. Big toasted dry base, decent bittering, but the overall flavor and wow factor never got going for me here. Okay? maybe good, could be better, but not bad by any means, just gets lost in a highly competitive field and seems just a place holder or part of a segment series used to tempt first time drinkers.

Incredible beer from New Belgium.

12 ounce bottle poured into an IPA tulip hybrid glass (16oz).

I have tried their normal Voodoo Ranger IPA, which is excellent in my opinion. This brew takes it up a notch in bitterness, hoppiness, and maltiness.

L: Appearance is amazing. Crystal clear, golden amber color (much darker than the normal voodoo ranger IPA) and leaves a fairly small head. Incredible lacing on this beer.

S: The smell is just straight hops with tons of fruit, all kinds of citrus including mostly grapefruit with a little orange in there too, along with a bit of apricot/peachy (stone fruit) smell to it.

F: Flavor wise, you get an explosion of hops that create a really juicy, fruity flavor. Tons of citrus, a bit of pine, some melon and apricot in there too. As it goes down, you can feel/taste the 9% alcohol hiding in the beer, but not as much as you'd expect. Leaves a fairly bitter aftertaste.

M: Pretty creamy and smooth. Leaves a bitter note on the tongue that is pleasent.

Overall, this is not a bad imperial/double IPA at all. I love new belgium's voodoo ranger IPA already, and this is pretty much that beer with more ABV and bitterness. I wish it had a bit more head and aroma, but the taste more than makes up for it. For 10$ a 6 pack, it's a great deal for an IPA/IIPA, considering it has 9% ABV.

12 oz bottle heavily poured into a libbey's porter glass. enjoy by 290CT17 on bottle.

Appearance- super transparent amber color with a frothy white head. leaves decent lacing.

Aroma- citrus and melon. not a melon fan but ok.

Flavor- freshly cold it's a citrus blend (orange and grapefruit) with a hardcore melon/ cantaloupe flavor. as it warms the flavor shifts and the abv is apparent and the pine notes come out.

Mouthfeel- medium/ light bodied. for the abv and the lightness of this brew is interesting. good carbonation

Drinkability- as many options of great imperial Ipa's are out there I don't see this being the last six pack I buy of this.

Overall- this beer is interesting and weird but in a good way. at first I was on the fence not caring for new experimental tropical hops. the melon taste was too much for me being the old school hophead I am loving just the grapefruit and pine characteristics. the pine notes are there but come in and out. for the price this beer is worth a try for every hophead. definitely better than the regular voodoo ranger. I miss the old ranger ipa :(

Solid IPA. It's 9%. The aftertaste isn't too bitter. It has a little bit of a citrus flavor, and the hops are pretty floral. I'm a big fan of New Belgium because they're a local brewery, and I love the Voodoo series so far.

Bottle poured into a New Belgium Brewing globe

A: Pours golden orange amber with a frothy off white head that settles to firm layer and laces nicely.

S: Big time fruity, some orchard and some tropical, pine, a little citrus, a touch of spice, slightly toasty biscuity malt, and caramel sweetness.

T: Fruity, melon, cantaloupe and honeydew, peach, pear, and apricot, tropical notes, mango and papaya, a little spice, backed with pine, some citrus, grapefruit, lemon, and a bit of tangerine, floral almost vanilla notes, slightly toasty biscuity malt, and caramel sweetness, plus a touch of alcohol.

M: Medium body, moderate carbonation, you do feel the alcohol a bit.

O: It's not bad, but... I'm not a huge fan of the hop profile they went with and the alcohol is a bit more present than I like too. This beer really just makes me miss Rampant.
