It looks, smells and laces like a commercial American lager. There's more hops present to the nose, of course. There's an even bigger taste of alcohol. A bit rough going down, I'll do this again when I need a cheap buzz.

Over the course of four years I have enjoyed this when my other preferences were not available or I needed to change it up. In my humble opinion this is very reminiscent of the “original” IPA recipes available prior to the microbrewing explosion. Upon pouring, there is a very nice golden color and nice lattice work left on the glass. The initial aroma points to pine, resins and dark roast notes. The taste is very hoppy with a slight alcohol finish and roasted malts. Little to no floral fragrance. Refreshing and tasty when understanding its place in the IPa hierarchy.

Golden colour, clear. Foam in the colour of broken white, high, with a moderately long reduction time. Fine to medium-sized bubbles not particularly settling on the glass (moderate decoration).
Aroma is strongly sweet but still very light and pleasingly hoppy and fruity.
The taste although sweet is broken by a hoppy bitterness. The bitterness becomes more intense with time, eventually extinguishing the malty sweetness completely. The bitterness has a spicy herbal character. A slight alcohol note is felt.
Alcohol perceptible in the taste, rather not disturbing. Medium saturation. Body medium. Texture a little rough. Long dry, spicy aftertaste.

Look: I had seen some reviews online where this was more of a reddish color. This still definitely has a nice deep golden color though. The head looks pretty creamy and soft to me. Very clear body. Overall, looks pretty great to me.
Smell: You can definitely smell the hops on this one. Reminds me of some other hoppy beers I have had like West Sixth IPA and Fosters. Smells fruity and floral to me. Smells alright.
Taste: Wow, I am surprised by this. I really was scared that this was going to be another IPA to write off that I do not like. I was pleasantly surprised by the lack of unpleasant bitterness. Don't get me wrong, you still get that hoppy bite and flavor, but this is amazingly drinkable. I must say that if I am drinking an IPA, for now this will be it. I am curious to explore more IPAs in the future now for sure. I like how at the end, you still get that bready beer taste that I love.
Feel: Feels really smooth and creamy in the mouth. Sticks around a bit, but not for super long.
Overall: An IPA I would definitely not be opposed to drinking. Much more drinkable than other hoppy beers I have tried. I am glad I decided to give IPAs another chance. Still not my favorite style of beer I would say, but it is growing on me.

Bottle (not can) from Outlet Liquors. Gotta say I was shocked.
Let sit out of fridge for 10 minutes. Poured a Gorgeous… Gorgeously crystal clear bronze body with a thick creamy head @ 1-2 inch in a wide mouth tulip. Decent lacing. Soft residue of head stayed covering entire body of beer.
Nose was pretty restrained…but … in fairness I do have a 71 yo nose.(LOL)
Tasty just took me back to some great West Coast Imp IPAS…big biscuit malt; big IBUs but flavorful not bitter dank. Old school West Coast. Complex NW hops merging perfectly with malt.
Smooth creamy malty body. So clean! This would be something special on cask.
Overall…a complete surprise that New Belgium still has it in them to “craft” an IPA. Realize most reviews fit with what I thought…actually what I thought too of Voodoo Ranger. But this big time Imp IPA is a true “throw back” to some great So Cal/ West Coast DIPAs from 20 some years ago.
Grateful for the trip down memory lane.

12 oz. bottle marked best by February 11, 2024.

Pours clear gold with amber highlights. One inch white variegated head. Curtain lacing and full surface cap.
Pine, pineapple aromas.
Pine, faintly mineral, green pepper, melon, yuzu, light pale malt flavors.
Despite the smallish head, persistent carbonation. Prominent hop bite up front. I get little alcohol heat from the 9% ABV.
If you are looking for a bracing hop forward strong IPA with minimal fruit notes, look no further.

I like to sip this out of a little 5oz jam jar. For a strong affordable readily available ale it's impressive.
Never seen or had in canned form; disappointed to find out it's offered that way. I thought maybe it was special.
I've had some variation in the smell: at best smelling strongly of cannabis and at worst of some hard candy soaked in vodka. The color varies too from dehydrated urine to healthy go getter urine. Sometimes I pick up some sweetness in the taste, but most of the time I call this dry. There is a trace of heat from the alcohol but I would not call it boozy. Compared to Dogfish 90 min. the booziness is meager. Little of the the fruitiness or juiciness of many IPAs but that's what makes this hop wine so enjoyable.
Also, it's pretty clean! I had twelve of these one day and had only a slight hangover.

Pine, grapefruit, nondescript breadiness, cough syrup, melon and a lot of nondescript booziness. It's aggressive and maybe a little unbalanced, but very drinkable. When I go to wal*shart and wanna get something with a lot of alcohol but don't want to get malt liquor (which would feel like some sort of concession), there's always this, so I tend to get it a lot, despite my rating. And the subdued fruit element brings out the "beerness" of it in a way I like.

Compared to my limited sampling of other imperial/double IPAs, this one is easy to drink and simpler flavor yet it still has the higher alcohol kick. To me, it's like an English bitter but with more alcohol.
