A pretty color of coppery gold with white cap and good lacing.

Aroma of pine and citrus with something lingering that I'll call herbal. I can tell there's malt in there but it's not putting up much of a fight against the hops.

Taste at first is sharply, firmly hoppy held on a tight rein. They're there prancing around but not running away. I get the pine resin and grapefruit but also a hint of something like sweet orange. Not a bitter orange like Bergamot, rather nicer like Valencia. Malt is present as a solid base but each time I think I taste it something hoppy runs in shining bright enough to cast the malt into shadow. A complex array of flavors that work well together.

Medium full texture with balancing carbonation.

Is there really a reason to supercharge an IPA? Perhaps, perhaps not, but when presented with a lack of choice I'm reminded of Henry Ford's comment to his Model T customers they could have any color they wanted so long as it was black. Beer options and more options, I want them all from 4% to more than twice that. Life itself offers limited options to most of us so when it comes to beer I want to run barefoot through the hop fields.

12oz bottle - I'm not sure I get the Megadeth-esque rebranding effort here.

This beer pours a clear, bright medium copper amber colour, with two fat fingers of puffy, loosely foamy, and bubbly ecru head, which leaves some streaky natural land bridge lace around the glass as it evenly subsides.

It smells of gritty and grainy caramel malt, a strong hard water flintiness, dried orange and lemon rind, faint cat pee esters, and some understated leafy, herbal, and piney green hop bitterness. The taste is bready and crackery caramel malt, a much lesser biscuity toffee thing, still prominent chalky stone paths after a rainstorm notes, muddled domestic citrus, a hint of generic tropical fruitiness, and more sedate leafy, grassy, and resinous pine hoppiness.

The carbonation is average in its basically functional frothiness, the body a so-so middleweight, and mostly smooth, nothing really coming out and messing things up, as such. It finishes trending dry, the stoney character mixing with the lingering citrus, pine forest floor, and crackery malt.

Overall, this isn't a bad version of the style, however, both of the proclaimed citrus and pine flavours kind of underwhelm. On the positive side, there is pretty much no evidence of the 9 points of ABV, which is commendable. Easy enough to drink, but not yer typical West Coast deal - more mountainous, I guess.

Enjoy by 4/16/17. 12oz bottle poured into a tulip. Pours golden with nice clarity and transparency: big fluffy white head that falls leaving great retention and very sticky lacing. The aromas have some subtle tropical notes. Some watermelon in the mix. Hints of rubber and ripe fruit. Malts are there. The flavors follow the nose. More watermelon along with some pineapple. Some hints of grapefruit. Some sticky pine resin in the mix. It's slightly syrupy and slick. It finishes with a mild warmth, but it's not hot or boozy. Possibly some black pepper in the mix. The mouthfeel is nice. It's full-bodied with moderate carbonation. It's very fluffy and creamy. It's ultimately smooth and dangerously drinkable.

This is a solid DIPA. It has a similar hop profile that most hoppy New Belgium brews. It's ultimately enjoyable stuff.

Pours golden like a weak bourbon with little head. The nose is not as hoppy as I expected. Taste is clean and has a kick of hoppy bitterness that fades. Not much of a follow though. Decent IIPA

Poured into a hybrid glass from a 12 oz bottle

A - a very pretty translucent deep gold with a nice copper, half finger very white head and some sugar lacing for sure

S - the fat tire essence is very prominent up front, roasted and sweet Malts, clean and caramilized sugar, floral/pine hops, some slight citrus rind, cracker yeast, more sugar, slight booze, a bit of dank and more hops of all varieties

T - the sugar up front is quickly met by a huge bulldozer of floral/fruit/citrus hops with a dash of pine, island fruits and flowers, roasted and sweet Malts/grains, very dry, Belgian/cracker yeast, as always the new Belgium hint of fat tire, clean, crisp,

M - medium body, nice balance, nice complexity, medium plus acidity, medium plus balance and a huge hop bomb that is eased by a very nice sugar and booze note

D/O - this voodoo ranger is much better than its predecessor the ranger IPA, by leaps and bounds. More refreshing, more flavors (but in a good way), less all-around tasteless bitters and just well done. This guy is clean, tasty and awesome to drink. A rack of BBQ ribs that are sauced, some sweet potatoe fries and a salad with ranch really kick this dude into gear. Luckily living in CA, this ale works wherever and whenever.

Final thoughts - as this was a gift I am unsure of the price but the perfect 9% ABV is well, perfect. Git 'er done!

12oz bottle poured into Duvel tulip. Bottom right corner of label ENJOY BY: 28OCT18

Appearance - Big billowing white pancake batter head with massive retention and patchy lacing. Clear gold body with mild carbonation. 4.25

Smell - Full bodied aroma comprising grass and honey. 4.25

Taste - Strong orange rind all throughout with a grassy body underneath. Bitter aftetaste but not unpleasant. Alcohol is decently hidden. 4.25

Mouthfeel - The head gives it a bit of a creamy texture on top of the abrasive, astringent body, which quickly disspiates in the finish so that it's not a bother. 4

Overall - Great, easy to find IPA. 4

A very nice surprise from a brewer I really would not expect anything less...

Great caramel coloration with yellow highlights, the head pours thick, has little staying power but interestingly enough has decent lacing. The smell is a muted mix of pine and hops - but muted to a very good level - I was impressed. The scent wasn't in-your-face or overly earthy (which I am frankly not a fan of such a thing.) The mouthfeel was crisp yet smooth (if that makes sense) and it was medium-bodied all the way. The taste, for me, improved as it warmed. It actually became sweeter to my sense but still strongly hoppy. What impressed me the most was the lack of tasting the 9% ABV - it was well masked and for that I had to rate it higher than I would have, otherwise. Overall, this truly is a very good beer. Maybe not exceptional, but close to it.

Medium amber, clear. Medium rising bubbles. Thick creamy head. Good head retention. Leaves an awesome lacing behind.

Tropical, fruity, some citrus. Sweet bready malts, some caramel. Just a bit of earthy.

Tropical, fruity, mango, apricot, some citrus. Strong malt backbone, sweet bready, caramel, a little sugar cane. Medium lingering aftertaste, bitter-sweet. Medium bodied, soft, well carbonated, slight warmth, easy drinking.

It's very good Imperial IPA.

Pours beautifully, nice golden color, very clear with a persisting thick but fluffy head. Pine and citrus on the nose, grassy, not too strong. Very similar in taste, citrus followed by pine, little bitterness on the sip but very bitter aftertaste--maybe a bit too much for my taste as it can feel soapy especially combined with the fluffiness of the mouth feel. Speaking of mouth feel, very pleasant, fluffy, good carbonation, balanced thickness. Booze is definitely apparent. Good beer for someone who wants an IPA with a strong, persisting finish. I, however, tend to prefer something crisper and a bit less boozy, cheers!

Poured a clear, golden body with two-finger head that quickly died and left a little lace. The aroma bursts with an acidic citric flavor with some bitterness and has hints of sweetness. The beer is smooth and balanced with a dry hoppiness and a bit of citric hop burst and tropical fruit sweetness w/ a clean finish.

From a bottle. I assume this is just a re-naming of Rampant. Tastes almost identical to rampant for me. This one may be a it toned down in both hops and malt, but certainly in the same neighborhood. I love Rampant, so this one works too
