What a pleasant surprise as I almost passed this up. The apparent golden base color is muddied by a great haze. The funk hits the nose as it gets in the vicinity of the glass and as it gets closer, the scents of the yeast, citrus, and if you inhale deeply, a little burn from alcohol hit the deep passages of your nostrils. The taste is just as intense. If you like tart, sour beer, this has all that with a distinct grapefruit bent that lingers pleasantly for a good while.

This is the 2014 vintage poured into Teku glass.
Look - brilliant orange-gold color with a 1" white head that lingers and lingers. Lacing is mild.
Smell - really nice earthy, mustiness. I swear there's a hint of Brett in there. Really nice dry-hop addition with the Amarillo bringing big tropical notes.
Taste - fruit and funk mix with mangoes, peaches, grass, earth and a hint of wood. This is a well done beer.
Feel - light-medium feel with the funkness there but not tart at all. Finish is tangy with mild funk.
Overall - damn nice beer! I really enjoyed this one. Best LOF New Belgium has done.

Hot damn, this is a fine beer. Gotta say, I'm not sure if I've had a dry hopped sour before, but if this is the outcome, let's get this ball rollin, brewers! Huge tropical notes on the nose + a health dose of apricot. Seriously, whoever crafted this brew is an artisan, because the Amarillo/Cascade combo marries so harmoniously with the base sour and its aroma...this is great stuff. Palate is similarly delightful, ample sourness but never veering into vinegary acid fest territory. That tropical fruit and tart apricot kinda overshadows any barrel presence, but I sort of sense it being there in a really minor, supporting way. Overall, an absoluet home run from NB, who continues to show that their sours are not to be trifled with -- in fact, I dare say they're one of the better sour producers in America.

Pours a hazy burnt orange. Aroma is faint fruity hops, a bit of funk and acid. Faint hint of oak. Smells a bit like a dry hopped Brett saison, but with a bit more acidity. Flavor is a well integrated citrus hop blast with lemony acidity. Barrel and funk mesh with some sweetness to help bring everything together. A much more cohesive effort than some other beers in a similar vein.
