This intriguing Saison took years to perfect. Our Brewers worked tirelessly to brew an exquisite French-style Saison, while our industry leading Wood Cellar Team worked to mature the perfect Sour Golden Ale in large, French oak barrels called Foeders. The best of both worlds is brought-out with this Sour Saison – a traditional barrel-aged sour ale artfully blended with a rustic, champagne-like Farmhouse Ale. With over 20 years of barrel-aged sour experience and the largest Wood Cellar in the United States, we’re proud to offer Sour Saison as our first ever year-round, traditional sour ale that’s so uniquely New Belgium, it can’t be replicated.

Has a cloudy gold orange color with around medium carbonation . The body is at least medium, has a mildy thick heavy feel.
Aroma is yeast,malt/sugar,tart sour candy, fresh cut apples and pears with a little citrus and lemon peel
Taste is a little sour and tart but far from overpowering which allowed all the other flavors to show up nicely. Everything in the aroma came about in the taste, the fresh cut apple/pear, malt/sugar,yeast and more.
Really nice beer that had elements of a fruit beer but very well blended. I thought this was a very pleasant surprise of a beer

Poured from a 12oz bottle at 40 degrees,
Look: Pours a hazy, orange pineapple color with a very strong fizzy, yet foamy head.
Smell: Aroma predominately of pear and sweet red grape. Some tropical apple variety and tropical melon underneath. There is actually a smokey flavor underneath.
Taste: Initial flavors of pear, peach, apricot, and red grapes predominate. A grape or vinous white wine flavor is definitely present. This is swallows up by a nice yeasty pepperness that finishes into a mild sour, tart finish. Minimal funk.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied, highly carbonated. More resiny than i would expect. A sour but sweet fruit flavor lingers on the tongue. A mild astringency, but definitely lingering. Almost more sweet than sour.
Compared side by side to Apex Predator: Darker. more orange. There is a stronger pear, orchard fruit flavor, rather that light citrus. Stronger pear and red grape. Much less lemon and white wine. Much heavier bodied, sticky, and more resinous. Obviously more sour. Similar levels of funk. Actually they are quite similar when you consider the similarities of pear, red grape, and lemon flavors. The sourness and heavier more resiny orchard-fruit define this one.
Overall: This is an interesting beer. It has a long going on when you consider it is trying to hit the mark with the yeast, fruit, and sour elements. It's a well-balanced saison, but has a strong sour and sweet fruity pear flavor that is the profile of this beer.

Look: Translucent golden brown with a thick head that dissipates quickly.
Smell: Wheat and farmhouse funk.
Taste: Moderate vegetal malty sweetness, a slight finish of tartness and funk.
Feel: Some carbonation with a dry finish.
Overall: Interesting in that there are many distinct flavors present, but a little lacking in the sourness and funkiness I expected.
