Beer poured into a pint glass. Pours cloudy yellow orange with a small white head that leaves nice lacing. Smells of Belgian yeast with slight wheat, very sweet. Tastes of sweet grain, a little watery, but still great taste, just a little weaker than the aroma would of led to believe. Beer is light bodied, heavily carbonated, but still smooth finish. Overall, an above average beer.

Fairly opaque, fine-hazed pale amber. Used Spiegelau's witbier glass. And with the well-retaining, foamy, uniform lemon-white head, its simply gorgeous. Excellent lacing! Medicinal, grassy, spicy aromas from yeast and alcohol primarily. Quite peholic. Mildly lemony throughout, tending toward rind in the back. Light spices and medicinal up front, tartness strengthens and white bread flavor comes forth as it lingers, with strong bandaid and weak black pepper notes in the finish. Very weak hop presence a ways into the aftertaste. Tastes like its January expiration date has not yet past to me, as it is still consistent with the style and my memory of this offering from before. Higher side of medium in body. Sparse, fine, prickly carbonation although this flattens quickly in the glass, likely due to its age. Very crisp. I have something to say: feel free to brew this again a few years down the road, New Belgium. I WILL purchase.

Appearance: Hazy medium golden body presents a huge, somewhat coarse white head with superb retention. The lacing is, appropriately, in the Belgian style. Profuse streams of minute, slow-rising bubbles drift lazily to the surface.
Aroma:Spicy, peppery notes, white bread, earthy yeast, and phenols dominate the aroma.
Taste: Opens with pronounced pepper and phenol notes. Bread flavors are also present, reminiscent of a rustic home-made white bread. As the taste progresses, the phenols dominate, along with some slight alcohol flavors. At the close of the taste, there is a lingering, mild white pepper flavor, and pronounced grassy hops.
Mouth feel: Smooth, soft, very full, with only a hint of carbonation.
Drinkability/notes: A nice, very drinkable example.
Presentation: Packaged in a custom twelve-ounce brown glass long-neck bottle with a pry-off crown, served in a New Belgium Brewing chalice. "Best before:" date is 04 JAN 2015.

The first time I tried this Saison I was drinking it blind, pulled one out of a variety pack in the dark by a campfire, and didn't cleanse my palate beforehand from whatever else I was drinking. The flowery bouquet from the hops "slapped me in the face" the way I described it at the time. The second one was better, quite good actually, and now I rather enjoy this beer.
