It smells just like water and nothing else which is pretty weird even though ''agua'' is in the title, you would still expect more of a smell to come through. Otherwise it's a fine beer.

12 oz bottle in a pint glass.
Fruity and sour aroma. The flavor is mildly tart and fairly complex with a solid light grain base highlighted by hibiscus, lime, melon and some unidentified elements.
Medium-light carbonation and body.

Usually siding fairly drastically with Belgian influences, the brewers at New Belgium stray from their european pathways and head south of the boarder for inspiration. Teaming up with Cervecería Primus, an agua fresca inspired ale comes with the refreshment of watermelon and lime, sweetened with agave and given a pinkish tint and a foral scent with hibiscus.

And that pink hue is woven with a mild haze and crowned with a loose and lathery cap. Mural's scent is playfully floral with rose, melon and citrus with hints of grain must as the beer warms. With the cerveza mexican lager at its base, a light cereal quality comes with the simplicity of agave sugars for a light fruit juice character.

Charming fruit flavors splash the middle palate and the agave sweetness continues to serve as a plumping, ripening agent for the watermelon and lime to come across radiant and vine or branch ripened. Trending cocktail-like, the beer easily forgets that its a lager as the watermelon and lime dance of the finish with the exuberance of fruit punch. A light citrusy bitterness decorates the late palate and serves to balance a portion of lingering sweetness.

Medium bodied from start to finish, the linger of agave and grain lasts into a medium short finish, leaving a light sweet tact on the palate like fruit drinks rather than beer. A return of cereal and the must of raw grain return in a brief echo to remind us that this collaboration is still a beer at heart.

a collaboration with a mexican brewery called primus, who i have not heard of before, this is an agua fresca inspired ale, brewed with hibiscus and watermelon and agave and lime and maybe some other ingredients that would work with these. its a hazy pink brew with very little head on it but a nice bright glow, clearly colored by the hibiscus. the aroma is interesting, lots of fresh lime zest here, its quenching and interesting to me, a little sweet with the watermelon, but it smells natural enough, robust as it all is together. the flavor starts a bit sweet both from the fruit and the agave. i have not had a ton of agua fresca in my life, so i dont know if agave is usually part of it, but i would think this would be quite a bit more refreshing without that, or at least if it were fermented out. the sweetness is a nice vehicle for the fruit though, lots of watermelon and lime all the way through this and not too much perfume from the hibiscus, thankfully well restrained. more body than i expected too for what it is, and less carbonation than i think this should have, but i like the idea and i like the flavors and how they come together here. nice to see something new and good from new belgium, a really neat collaboration this turned out to be!
