Notes / Commercial Description:
In a never-ending quest to create new beers and defy category, New Belgium Brewing and Brewerij Boon of Belgium have partnered together again to create Transatlantique Kriek - a spontaneously fermented lambic ale made with Polish cherries.

This authentic kriek beer began life in the oaken vessels at Frank Boon's brewery in the Lembeek region of Belgium. After more than two years aging, Boon's offering shipped across the Atlantic and found its way to the intuitive palate of New Belgium's Brewmaster Peter Bouckaert. After much sampling and internal consultation, Peter and his brew staff created a full-bodied golden lager to round out the light-bodied kriek.

The cherry nose gives way to a pleasingly sour flash across the palate that rolls gently into a slightly sweet finish. Crisp, effervescent carbonation keeps the mouthfeel bright and delightfully tingly.

On-tap @ the River Room, Whole Foods Boise ID. Served in a chalice.

A: Deep red, with quickly fading head.

S&T: Some vinegar and light tartness on the nose, with cherry and lemon and some funk. Malt body unfolds under the cherry and funk, lending a brown sugar quality to the beer. There is some lemon and possibly green apple here as well? Definitely not as cherry prominent as I'd hoped. Only moderately tart as well.

MF: Thinner, medium-light body with moderate carbonation.

O: Wishing for more tartness and cherry character. Not one I'd revisit.

Poured from bottle to flute glass. Intense red in color with a quickly dissipating pinkish foam. Pleasent aroma of cherry gives way to a light bodied tingly efervecense and a rubbish dryness to wrap it all up, sadly the taste leaves much to desire since it' s almost nonexistent.

I really enjoyed this one. Pink, bubbly foam head, both large bubbles and smaller ones. Ruby red body - darkish pink. I loved the smell - tart cranberries, sour cherries, a little sour apples, little balsamic oak-iness, cherry pie, definitely fruity. Taste followed the noise though in a subtler less sour manner than expected. Fruity for sure with slight funk notes (though maybe I was reaching), quite sweet though I wouldn't say overtly artificial like other reviews have but really quite fruity - not syruppy in either flavour or mouthfeel - which was medium and smooth, I think I would have wanted the carbonation a little tighter. All in all I really enjoyed this beer, definitely light on the sour, more sweet and gentle tart fruit notes but really enjoyable.
