Hazy dark straw with small near-white head. Head is soon gone but leaves a thin ring on top and plenty of lacing.
Fine aroma with plenty of hops, plus hints of yeast, malt, banana, and spices. Sounds plenty Belgian in this description but actually much more like an Amer. IPA than expected. Slight downgrade to Overall rating for this departure.
Body is a bit thin and a little crisp. Semi-dry.
O - quite enjoyable, if not the beer I was expecting (which was something more like an Ommegang BIPA). Think of this as a Slightly Belgian IPA.

Hazy yellow and orange, 3/4" head, white, retention was good. Aroma hit the belgian yeast notes more than it did the hops.
Taste dropped way more bitterness than your average Belgian. The hops came out to play a lot more on the tongue than they did in the nose. Finishes clean, but before you get there, there is plenty of belgian spice rack and black pepper.
Good at what it is.

From notes, 4/29/11. Draft, City Beer Store. A very nice Belgian IPA. I rather like the Lips of Faith series. They mostly would make for excellent introductions to their various styles, since they’re friendly, enjoyable versions that still pack good flavor and some complexity. This isn’t quite competing with the best of the sub-style, but it’s nearly there and very good in its own right. Good citrus/grass/floral hop notes blend with Belgian yeastiness and a touch of earth. Taste is a bit sweet but finishes dry with a gentle bitter bite. A very pleasant beer and another win for New Belgium’s fancy line.
