This pleasing, two-part, potion was brewed with chocolate and black malts for a rich and roasty overtone, then fused with a dry, substratum of sour for a bold and audacious flavor. Black as night, this beer is blended at 80% stout, 20% dark sour wood beer for a collaboration that begins with a sour edge and finishes with a big, dark malt character, lingering, sweet on your palate.

22oz bottle. Pours dark brown with a smallish light tan head that goes to a thin film and leaves a little lacing.
The aroma is some roasted chocolate malts, leather and tart, sour dark fruits.
The flavor is some roasted earthy malts and molasses with a good amount of tart fruity sourness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with low carbonation.
Overall, a nice mellow dark fruit sour with a bit of roast.

Grunt fill from Winco.. Not normally a big sour fan, but was intrigued by the Belgian slant on this. It lives up to the description , resembling a sour quad or dubbel.Dark brown / black body, small skin of bubbly beige head. Aroma features the chocolate first, some plums or figs in the background. Taste is more chocolate, pit fruit, brown sugar, with a sourness that seems odd at first, but fits right into the mix. This beer hits it at many levels.

A: Poured into a Duvel tulip to a black beer which is topped by a dense and slightly rocky two and a half finger light tan head which fades slowly to a collar around the edge of the glass with minimal lacing
S: Smells of chocolate malts, slight sourness, and a hint of sour cherry
T: Taste is roasted malts and chocolate up front with some hints of sourness that start to build with a touch of sour cherry. Slight touch of funk as well along with more roasted malts. On the swallow there's some more roasted malts, a hint of sourness and dark chocolate
M: This beer has a body which is somewhat heavy an slightly silky on the palate. Carbonation is on the low end but adequate for a stout while the beer has a drying finish
O: Overall this is an interesting one. I expected it to be a little more sour but the tartness is pretty light. Overall this one has a good amount of complexity and an interesting flavor profile which makes it enjoyable to drink. I'm kind of happy that I don't have multiples and I won't miss this beer now that it is retired.

Pours black with a dense creamy tan foam head. Smells like creamy vanilla, sour dark fruits, cola, wood, roasted malts, rich chocolate, coffee, caramel, toasted bread, toffee, molasses, brown sugar, pretzels, with floral earthy herbal grassy pine. Tastes lightly acidic and sour with tart dark fruit notes, plum, black grape, dark berry, cherry, fig, cola, roasted malts, dark chocolate, coffee, molasses, caramel, toasted bread, toffee, brown sugar, pretzels, wood, creamy vanilla, and floral earthy herbal grassy pine. Feels medium-light bodied, creamy with moderate smooth carbonation. Overall a real nice wood aged sour stout blend.

I think this one is underrated. Had it on tap at a local taco place - surprised they had such a beer!
Poured from tap into a tall pint glass. Very dark brown with good head and very nice lacing. Sour cherries smella nd taste. Dark fruit, followed by chocolate and coffe. Very layered flavors make this a very interesting beer that I will have again.

Pours an espresso color with khaki head leaving a bit of lacing.Nose is mildly sour dark fruit, chocolaty coffee and earthy wood. Taste follows but is very mild with a bit of sour aftertaste. Mildly tart on the finish but nothing unpleasant. A great entry level sour stout.

12/30/17...pours pitch black in color, light tan foam layer. Chocolate and coffee nose. Woodsy. Slightly sour taste, heavy wood and spills into a creamy stout. Then tart again. Really damn good.
