Style: American Wild Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 9.50%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
This pleasing, two-part, potion was brewed with chocolate and black malts for a rich and roasty overtone, then fused with a dry, substratum of sour for a bold and audacious flavor. Black as night, this beer is blended at 80% stout, 20% dark sour wood beer for a collaboration that begins with a sour edge and finishes with a big, dark malt character, lingering, sweet on your palate.

3.36/5: A decent soured stout that tastes better than it smells, but could use more dimensions

L: Pours out a dark brown that looks pitch black in the glass. The head is beige. Size nor retention is noteworthy, but a thin circle remains that leaves lacing along the glass.

S: Milk chocolate candy, a bit of roasted barley and coffee, sour cherries, and almond milk creaminess.

T: Milk chocolate candy, a roasted graininess like burnt toast, leading into a tart cherry skin light sourness, that rounds out into a milk chocolaty and almond milk, lactose-like creaminess. Very lightly roasty with that burnt grain and mild coffee, tapered by a lightly tart and lightly sweet, almost Maraschino cherry-like flavor.

F: Medium-bodied, smooth, rounded, and well-carbonated upfront, but trails off quickly into a light and almost watery finish.

O: Being a huge fan of Clutch, and of sour beers, I had high expectations for this, but I came away disappointed. The best part about this beer is how easily drinkable it is, but overall, it is disappointing. The mouthfeel is a thin, there is a lack of sourness, and there's even a lack of stout complexities. It comes across as a low-abv cherry porter.
