Poured a rocky mountain looking head which its craters and hills filled the entire top of my glass. As the head slowly sunk into the beer it left beautiful fluffs of lacing behind. Smells of resiny hops, banana, citrus fruits such as tangerine and orange peel. Earthyness and piney. This IPA brought the whole party with it and is here for business. First flavour that caught my attention was the spices that touch the tip of the tongue but quickly trails behind an explosion of hops, bananas, citrus. Bitter on the tongue but complements the fruityness of this beer. Slightly dry finish with a fair amount of carbonation. Overall this beer seems to have a lot going on. Very well balanced IPA. Thumbs up my fellow hop heads.

Light orange pour, 3/5" barely off white head. Good retention to that head. Decent mix of both worlds here in the aroma, there is definitely a belgian yeast going on here. But there is also plenty of hoppy, American hop notes. I think the aroma is the best part, a lot going on, dry bitterness of SImcoe, lemon, straw, clove from the yeast, Amarillo pushing a little fruitiness and C hops doing the pine and grapefruit rind thing.

Taste, eh, too much of the belgian yeast clove aspect coming out for my taste. Temper that down and I could enjoy this more. Bitterness of Simcoe, Cascade and Centennial persists the entire time. Its more of a hybrid ipa than a pure belgian one, but at the same time, for the same reason, I prolly liked it more than I would have a 100% belgian ipa.

Ultimately, the system works. But boy if you could cut the clove down, this beer would rate even higher from me.

From notes 4/19/12: Pours almost clear gold with an orange tint producing 2.5 fingers of billowy, white head with good retention which leaves decent rings of lace behind as it recedes. Aroma is sweet with a light fruitiness, bread and spice with hints of Belgian funk, lemon, grass and pine. Taste is similar with biscuit malt, more peach and pear; resinous hop bitterness and pepper in the finish and aftertaste. Mouthfeel: medium body with moderate-high carbonation, lively in the mouth.

Pour is nice and clear, frothy head with staying power. Wonderful hoppy and frity aromas which you don't have to work at finding come up from the glass. The taste of Belgium yeast and malt come forward woth enough hops to give it a good backbone. Has a bit of harhness on the backend. Was at first doubtful about a Belgium IPA, but we have learned to enjoy the style. Best by date is Feb '17, so this was meant to be out in the dead of winter. I would prefer this on a warm summer night, but such is life.

Didn't like at first. Lots of stuff going on in this one. Most I can't figure out but have to say that this beer grows on you. After first wanting to pour this down the drain, I have to say Id drink it again. Good stuff.

Poured from bottle into a pint glass

Appearance – The beer pours a clear golden color with a two finger head of big white foam. The head has a great level of retention, slowly fading over time to leave a fantastic level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell –The aroma of the brew is massive of a coriander and yeasty smells with tons of biscuit and clove aromas as well. Along with these smells comes some lighter notes of candied sugar and some grass.

Taste-The taste begins with a crisp biscuit flavor that also has some big notes of a yeasty and coriander spice. As the taste moves on, the cracker is meet with some slightly sweeter tastes of orange, candied sugar, and caramel, all while some other light hoppy flavors of grass and herb begin developing on the tongue. More toward the middle and the end of the taste the hop really starts cranking it up with more herb, grass, some citrus, as well as some pine all come to the tongue. In the end, with more spice of coriander and clove coming to the tongue, one is left with a crisp and clean, yeasty, and decently dank hopped taste to linger on the tongue.

Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is on the slightly thinner side with a carbonation level that is rather high for an IPA of 7.0 %. For the Belgium style that has all the yeast, cracker, and dank hop, the feel is rather nice and creates a rather dangerously drinkable brew.

Overall – This is one tasty brew. New Belgium always does a good job with their Belgium style brews in my opinion. I wish they would make this one a mainstay, being in the company of the triple and abbey. Quite enjoyable!!
