Transparent bronze color. Bubbly, soda-like off white head recedes to a thin film and adds a few lace blotches.

Smoked meats in the aroma, pine and ginger.

Wheat malt in the background. Spicy ginger root and a hint of lemon acidity. Touch of smoked meat. Mildly dry in the finish.

Medium bodied with a sharp, snappy carbonation. Dry feel.

Solid pale ale. Darker than most examples of the style. Tasty and drinkable nonetheless.

A: Nice amber/ reddish color!

S: Amazing mango, lemon and great friut aroma! Probably becausenof the Nelson Sauvin hop with american hops! Really nice smell!

T: bready, malty, almost biscuity very dry finnish! It has that signature New Belgium yeast strain taste!

O: a very easy going Pale Ale, good for anyone and still a world class beer!

12 oz bottle poured into a New Belgium globe.
5.6% ABV, Serve at 7°C (45°F), enjoy by 27MAY12.

A - Beautifully clear, Dig pours a deep soil-and-clay amber color that's topped by a well-formed ivory head which drops to a plateau and shovels it's sticky foam all over the glass.

S - The hand-drawn label shows earth, a theme that's carried from bottle label to aroma. Hops that remind of Fat Tire's embark on a different path, however. The light grass and dry leaf aromas gently blanket the lightly toasted specialty malts. Certainly not dry-hopped, Dig begins on the more mild side of the style.

T - The lack of prominent hops in the aroma certainly doesn't repeat in the flavor. Fruity undertones seem to stem from both hops in a citrus, lemon zest and mango sort of way as well as a pinch of ale yeast ester doing. Crumbly toast falls behind to a near absence and provides a base if mild, balancing sweetness.

M - The dry, light citrus flavor notes work well with the tingling touch of bitterness on the tongue. Moderate carbonation keeps the feel lively though the well-balanced, medium-bodied brew.

O - Dig lets it's hops work a little more subtly than many IPA-like American Pale Ales do these days. The balanced bounty reminds me of a *lighter*, more sessionable Fat Tire while citrus and earth tones cooperate nicely. I can almost view "Dig" as more of an estate or fresh-hop beer to go along with the name but, without a doubt, when Tag Team throws me a shovel, the resounding answer is, "yes, I can dig it!"

(Yeah, fool, I did just drop an obscure 90's music reference! Thought you knew. Wait...make that three.)
