From a bomber into a tulip-shaped porter/stout glass.
Lovely pale-white head and lacing. I'm a bit surprised by the thinner body and nut brown color of the liquid on the pour. Seems a bit thinner than I was expecting. No biggie though. It still looks delicious.
Heavy cinnamon and cream on the nose. A bit of a floral bouquet that accentuates the spice. Subtler notes of chocolate and vanilla. It's a nice aroma, but mellow and despite my best efforts I can't help but compare it to other similarly spiced beers that are much more potent.
The flavor reminds me of a spicy cocoa. Cocoa obviously, but also cinnamon and spicy chile flavor of the red variety. Finishes with dark chocolate and vanilla. Pretty tasty although I feel it may be a bit spice heavy where I wish for more chocolate.
It's got a good bite that might be a bit much for some lightweights. The heavier-carbonation and lighter body can almost resemble a soda. It's enjoyable but leaves a bit too be desired as far as thickness and creaminess.
Good stuff. Between the two more widely available chile/chocolate/cinnamon brews, I give the advantage to Xocoveza, but I enjoy this plenty.

September 26th, 2015 - In the same vein as Stone's famous Xocoveza, New Belgium has their Cocoa Mole, a deep and dark looking brew being served here at the Tour de Fat. The smell conjures images of childhood mornings snacking on the terrible tasting brown sugar Pop-Tarts matched with sweet grapes, and even a little clove spice. The body is thin but the carbonation compensates for the lack of gravity. I also note that the flavor is quite sweet, and finally delivers the Mexican chocolate kick in the aftertaste. Not bad for a beer sloshing around a festival.

This is my first review and I wanted to set my own standard. I distinctly remember Cocoa Mole as the best beer I've ever had. Perfect balance of sweetness and heat with a super smooth aftertaste. I wish it hadn't been retired.

It's a sweet, flat, cinnamon bomb that is awful until it's redeeming pepper bite

APPEARANCE: Brown almost ruby or tea like up to the light. Very quickly dissipating head, down to a ring. Nice looking level of carbonation when rocking the glass.
AROMA: Chile peppers right off the bat, caramel, slight chocolate, slight cinnamon.
TASTE: Cinnamon, immediately followed by mild chocolate and caramel. The peppers kick in towards the finish and adds some great flavor.
FEEL: Acidic, medium body, slightly chewy, dry on finish, but a little sticky at the same time.
OVERALL: A little disappointed in the aroma dept, however, the flavor more than makes up for it. I don't get any alcohol in the aroma or taste. The beer has great, but fairly mild building spiciness to it. Cinnamon more so in the taste than aroma. Just a pleasure to drink, will be picking up more.
