Poured from a 22 oz. bottle into a New Belgium Globe glass. Bottle says best enjoyed by January 29, 2017.

Appearance: Pours blackish brown with some hints of ruby. Moderate amount of bubbles and about one finger of tan head that settles into a thin patchy layer. Leaves a lot of creamy lacing.

Smell: Spicy and roasty dark malt driven aroma with big hints of peppers and chocolate. Big upfront scent of spices with some red chili peppers and cinnamon. Dark roasted barley malt with hints of chocolate, coffee, burnt toast, smoke, biscuit, rye, and yeast. Sweet hints of brown sugar. Also some dark fruit hints of raisin, fig, and cherry. A very solid aroma.

Taste: Like it smells, a spicy and roasty dark malt driven taste with lots of peppers and roasty chocolate. Big upfront taste of chili peppers along with some cinnamon. Dark roasted barley malt with roasty notes of dark chocolate, coffee, smoke, toast, biscuit, rye, and yeast. Sweet taste of brown sugar. Dark fruit undertones of cherry, raisin, fig, and prune. A really nice taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium to full bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Creamy, silky, and fairly chewy. Alcohol heat is minimal.

Overall: A very good take on a spiced Imperial Porter. Big taste of peppers that avoids becoming too hot. Good roasty malt notes.

look: 3.5 | smell: 3 | taste: 2.5 | feel: 3 | overall: 2.5

Look: Dark brown, decent lacing
Smell: Mildly fragrant, herbal, chocolate, spice.
Taste: Very spicy, cocoa flavor doesn't really come together. Spice eventually overwhelms the palate.
Feel: Moderate mouthfeel, heat builds quickly.
Overall: Drinking this beer wasn't enjoyable, I left it without finishing. I think the heat is overwhelming and the flavors are underwhelming.
