Bottle marked best enjoyed by 1/29/17. Pours a light brown that allows light through around the edges, making the outside appear amber in color. The head is foamy and tan. The nose is light chocolate and heavy spices. The taste is rather dull up front, mostly sweet malts and a touch of chocolate. The spices come through towards the end and linger through the finish and hang around for a while. Overall, it's an interesting beer, but one of the more lifeless examples. It could be the relative age of the beer, however it was stored in the fridge from the time of purchase, and was clearly before the "best by" date on the bottle.

I was saving my 100th review for the BCBS I bought on Black Friday, but this beer was so good that I couldn't hold back. A sort of premature ratulation, if you will.

Got a growler filled at the local bottle shop. Enjoyed all 32 oz.!

Very dark beer with a creamy head and good lacing. This beer was a lot like a great chocolate stout or porter with a peppery kick. Some cherry and cinnamon notes. The finish is spicy, and it lingers...and lingers...and lingers. I loved it.

Full bodied with little carbonation.

This beer was a lot of fun.

Had this on tap at Brother's Provisions.

The appearance is very dark, with a bit of a dark red hue when the light shines through. A modest amount of head that dissipates to a thin ring. Good lacing on the side of the glass.

A mild malty and spicy aroma. I can smell a bit of the coffee and something that smells sweet, almost fruity. Maybe cherries.

Tastes very chocolatey and a big hit of cinnamon. The cinnamon is a bit of a pleasant surprise. Can definitely taste some cherries in there. An assertively spicy aftertaste. A bit boozy on the finish. A very nice and flavorful beer.

Warm and spicy mouthfeel from the alcohol and the spices. Not a lot of carbonation or body, fairly light.

Overall, an interesting porter. Definitely does not have an abundant roasted quality that most porters have, but I enjoy the flavors and the spice quite a bit. I generally don't like spicy beers but this one does it very well. It's a very nice winter beer, it'll warm your throat and stomach right up while delivering a nice chocolate/cinnamon flavor.

I tried this on tap at brewhouse grille in Camp Hill, served chilled in a New Belgium goblet.

The color is dark almost black with translucent clarity and thin pale tan head with fine bead and decent retention. The smell is nice with a malt sweetness mixed with cinnamon-like aroma with mild yeast ester and toasted malt aroma. The feel is great with good base of toasted malt with moderate carbonation and moderate spice which is well balanced with some heat from the pepper in the finish.

The taste is very good with nice earthy cocoa flavor with a slight malt sweetness to keep it from tasting too dry with nutty yet also a slight spicy pepper taste in the middle w/ warming quality and cocoa flavor following with light cinnamon accent in the sem-dry finish. I love this mix of chile with cocoa and cinnamon I just wish it had a more substantial porter base. It is a very good beer, don't get me wrong the spice carries it for me, but basically a Chile beer with cinnamon and cocoa

Tasted in a 12 oz snifter from draught at Firkin on November 6, 2015. Holy cinnamon!

Chocolate-forward. Big caramel flavor and sweetness. Light cinnamon notes. Spicy on the finish. The burn lingers in the back of the throat. Wonderful Chile Beer with a solid Porter baseline.

Fellow Aadvocates seem to have a misconception of this beer. New Belgium states that it is a "Spiced Chocolate Porter". THIS IS NOT CONSIDERED A STOUT.

Helpful Tips:
1)Research style guidelines, Porters & Stouts specifically, and then research the differences.
2)Research Ales vs Lagers.
