A very unique beer with an interesting translucent brownish red hue. The nose is full of cinnamon and a hint of mace. The mouth feel was thin and dry. The flavor and finish make it a perfect desert beer.

Dark amber to brown color. Cream colored head with some lacing. Cocoa, roasted nuts and pepper aroma. Rich milk chocolate up front. Mild chile pepper spice. Dark fruit malt flavor. Hint of brown sugar. Medium body. Slight tingle on the lips. Can hardly tell it's 9% abv. Good stuff.

Dark brown in color. Lots of carbonation. This nearly looks like cola in a glass, just not quite as fizzy.

Sweet aroma. Lots of cinnamon.

Flavor is sweet up front, followed by lots of cinnamon and a slight chocolate touch. A mild pepper heat is noticed in my throat at the finish. The cinnamon leaves this beer pretty tasty in my opinion.

That carbonation I mentioned earlier all but leaves the glass entirely by them time I'm halfway through.

When you first drink if you get the cocoa but in the following you start getting more spice to the taste. Pretty good beer.

Has a very nice hint of coconut at the beginning followed by a spicy aftertaste. The spice is a bit too much and takes away from the beer.

The beer poured somewhat opaque for a 9% abv porter. Light filters around the edges, adding a red hue to the beer.

Smell: I'm getting a vinous quality that is quickly overwhelmed by alcohol. A bit of dark chocolate and Chile heat comes through. Too much alcohol coming through.

Taste starts out with caramel. Sweetness is on the front end. Mid-palate a dark chocolate creeps in. It is pleasant, but unsubstantiated, as the beer is thin. It is like there is not enough substance to punch the flavor home.
The back end brings the heat in. Chile flavor and heat.

Mouth feel: this is the problem with this beer for me. It lacks substance and the thinness of the beer accentuates that.

Overall: I am big into large Chile stouts now, though I will not purchase this again. It is too thin and lacks flavor. The Chile and chocolate are there, as is a caramel sweetness in first sip. There is nothing to compliment these flavors, which bodes I'll for a larger (8% or so, and above) beer. It is too thin and their is no bold roasted dark grain flavor. Tasted more like a low IBU amber with chocolate and Chile flavors, which I would not of purchased.

Poured into a snifter.

3.5 A: Black color. One finger of frothy tan head. Retention is about average and a short ring of lacing is left.

4.0 S: Oh yeah, the peppers are in this. Big peppery vegetal nose that works so well. Layers of cocoa powder and milk chocolate. Caramel and roastiness underneath. Just as advertised.

4.0 T: Pepper flavor is the dominant flavor. The heat is minor and mainly manifests as a subtle afterburn. Again lots of chocolate and cocoa powder. Caramel with a light apple fruitiness. Well done.

3.75 M: Medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Lightly creamy with a warming finish.

4.0 D: I really love chile beers. This is a market that needs expanded. This is a good one.

Greatly enjoyed this. Enjoyed the subtle heat. It's a little too cinnamony as it warms up.
