Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.50%

Notes / Commercial Description:
New Belgium Brewing and The Lost Abbey brewery from San Marcos, California have a shared passion for a variety of things, not the least of which is the wild Belgian yeast brettanomyces. So they decided to join forces and collaborate. Lost Abbey Collaboration is brewed simply with pale malts accompanied by Target, Centennial and Sorachi hops for a hint of citrus. Focusing on their mutual respect for the ingredient, the spotlight shines on the brettanomyces, where a full brett fermentation offers bold pineapple overtones and funky, sour edge. The beer is a shining, golden shade and is warming and dry.

Small, one finger, foamy, white head. Nice lacing! Brew is cloudy gold color with lots of yellow.

There's a ton of Belgian funk in this one... Some light apple/fig fruits. Very light. Gamey, wet dog, and barnyard come to mind.

Very light and airy. Heavy carbonation, but it fits the style. Lots of sulfur (fart) flavors. Light fruity-ness, but no tropical fruit like the bottle claims. Lots of bretty biscuit flavors. Zero sourness, disappointing... Where's the tart? Heavy, creamy chamomile ;p

This brew is a mess. There's zero sour/tart... Coming from NB and LA I would expect an amazing concoction. This brew falls far short of anything memorable. Maybe this brew will change with time, and I'll update if it does, but right now I cannot recommend.

Thanks! Poured into Lost Abbey Patron Sinner stemware.

A: Hazy yellow orange with two fingers of craggy white sea foam that linger for many minutes. The head leaves lots of lacing scattered on the glass as it recedes and settles to a thin bubbly layer of foam. Nice color.

S: Earthy, musty, leathery, and slightly horsey with a light floral bouquet. The funk blends with fruity notes, reminiscent of lemon, orange, and stone fruit. There's a light pineapple presence. Malt is soft and bready.

T: Soft orange, mango, and pineapple with musty, earthy, and leathery Brett. There's a whisper of tartness with some barnyard notes. Malt is biscuity and lightly sweet. There's a low bitterness. The finish is funky, lightly tart, fruity, and ultimately dry. Pineapple lingers. No alcohol is evident.

M: Lower medium body with medium carbonation. The mouthfeel is smooth, sticky, and dry.

Overall: A nice and refreshing Brett beer.
