Style: American Double / Imperial IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8.50%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
A burly and bitter Imperial IPA, Rampant pours a pure copper and carries the sheen of a rightly hopped beer. The Mosaic and Calypso hops bring stonefruit to the front seat, and the addition of Centennials nod towards citrus for a well-rounded aroma. The taste expands these hops with heavy peach tones and a profoundly bitter bite. There is some malt sweetness to stand this beer up, and Rampant's finish is bone-dry.

Bottle poured into a New Belgium globe

A: Pours deep golden yellow with a creamy off white head that settles and laces quite nicely.

S: Citrus hops up front, grapefruit stands out, also some tangerine, a little pine, some herbal notes, and a little light malt sweetness.

T: Citrus hops, tangerine, grapefruit, and a little pineapple, a touch of pine on the backside, and some light malt sweetness to balance it out.

M: Medium body, moderate carbonation.

O: I dig this one. Very drinkable for an 8.5% brew.

Very clean appearance with a merangue like foam cap. The nose is full of herbal and citrus hops. Light grapefruit, tangerines, oranges and pithy rinds meld well with chive, onion, herbaceous hop cone and pine needles.

The hops run more herbal on the tongue with some perfumey rose petal, pine bitterness, light chive, garlic bulbs, spruce needles, lupilin and honey. This has a ton of flavor but it just isn't my kind of flavor.

Appearance - Pours a golden amber with three fingers of frothy white head.

Smell - citrus hops, slight pine, tropical fruits (pineapple, mango, passionfruit), peach notes, and bready caramel malts.

Taste - Starts off with the citrus hops then goes into the tropical fruits (pineapple, mango, passionfruit), peach notes, slight pine and bready caramel malts. Lots of good citrus flavours going on with this one.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Finishes with a slight bitterness from the citrus hops.

Overall - An imperial IPA with a good citrus profile. The bready caramel malts tend to edge out some of the bitterness and balance out this brew. There is nothing wrong with that and a pleasant experience nonetheless.

Even though I am drinking this way passed the enjoy by date, it still hold up pretty damn well. Has a noticeable boozy taste but has w nice malty backbone.
