Notes: Since 2005, Uerige has also been brewing a special strong beer for the American market. Our Doppelsticke has a remarkable 8.5% abv and yet tastes unmistakable: it truly is the yummy droplet!

After the initial herbal aroma of hops, which tends to surprise the palate, there follows a firework of flavor sensations ranging from caramelized sugar, malts, and herbs to rich touches of dark chocolate and rum, only to eventually fade gently and lustrously.

True aficionados tend to simply ignore our recommended minimum shelf life of eight weeks – rather, they swear by storing their Doppelsticke in the cellars for an entire year first.

L- Deep brown, dish watery, soupy looking beer. Lots of floaters. Very interesting. Also a small lacy head.
S- Mollasses, dark fruit, biscuit, umami savory aroma, soy sauce.
T- Sweet, once again umami savory flavor that I can't completely grasp, soy sauce, banana, and booziness.
F- Thick Sticky and chewy.
O-Interesting and weird beer that I definitely enjoyed. The most interesting beer I've ever had. Much original flare to this one.

Yet another style topper acquired in my trip to OEC yesterday, we have the #1 Altbier. I’ve never had an imperial version of an Altbier, so I’m quite excited to see how Doppelsticke will drive up the intensity of the classic style. Let’s pop it open and find out for ourselves

Pours a cloudy light brown with 2 fingers of light tan head that slowly fades to a cap and leaves decent lacing

In the nose this is definitely big and sweet, but it still retains a degree of simplicity I enjoy. I’m picking up on aromas of brown bread, toffee, apple skin, brown sugar, and light herbal hops

It’s even sweeter in taste, almost too a fault but it’s still got some balance. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting sweet raisin, brown bread, honey, toffee, and herbal hops. The swallow brings notes of toast, herbal hops, dates, caramel malt, brown sugar, and light pepper

A medium full body pairs with gentle carbonation, resulting in a rich beer. Finishes neutral with a bit more of a bite than it starts off with

This is a very good Altbier, but I prefer them to be a bit more drinkable. Nevertheless, I enjoyed this quite a bit

This pours a dark walnut color. Its opaque due to the darkness of the beer, but when held to the light that is pretty clear. However there is some sediment in the bottom of the bottle that I allowed to get in the glass causing some cloudiness. There is essentially no head on the beer ... just some spritzy soda like hard, but absolutely no head whatsoever. The aroma has notes of caramelized brown sugar, toffee, smoke, dark bready malts, pumpernickel, prune, raisins, and spicy herbal hop notes.

Taste follows the nose with notes of dark bready malts, prunes, raisins, dates, a touch of smoke, brown sugar, and a syrupy sweetness that gives way to a bitter, spicy hop finish. The hops have notes of tobacco, herbs, spicy black pepper, with a pronounced bitterness on the back end lingering into the finish with this spicy peppery note that just lingers on the palate. Its an incredibly unique flavor and one that I am still working my way through - in particular as it pertains to whether or not I like this beer. The feel is thick, syrupy, heavy, but also super smooth and rich. Very lightly carbonated. Semi-dry finish.

Overall its a decadent and unique beer. I enjoyed this one, but Im not sure I would be likely to pick it up again.

Murky, medium brown body; thin, nearly patch white head. Big caramel nose; earthy and sweet. Taste of caramel sweetness with an herbal component, sage and rosemary; a bit of anise; raisin; very, very low bitterness; a bit boozy. Medium body; moderate to heavy residual sugar mouthfeel; earthy sweetness.

This beer has been sitting in the back of my 'Fortress of Solitude' beer fridge for a long while. This ale has a certain intriguing earthiness to it, very malty with a rustic herbal quality.

Poured at ℉43.3; unknown bottling date although there was a spot on the bale-wire bottle stopper for that info.

330ml bottle with a quaint wire and stopper sealer. Freshness dating hard to decipher, but I think this one is a 2021 release.

Looks very nice in the glass. Dark reddish amber body, clear when held up to the light. Decent cream colored head shrinks to a fat collar and covering, scattered lacing.

Sweet boiled candy aroma with a mild spice note.

On tasting, rich, abv apparent. Sweetness nicelybalanced out with a spicy pepper hit. Faint bitter hop bite as well.

Mouth full, finish initially sweet with a dry spice bitterness.

Overall, well put together and very tasty beer. Happy to have tried it. Wouldn't say no to another.

scary bottle purchased on clearance... the number one altbier!!!! You should be here to see me laugh like an insane asylum inmate as I read that """fact""" and pour the bier

DARK azz pour, no head to speak of... smells like dry leaves, play-doh, and regret. Tastes like hot choccy minus the hot and the choccy. A tepid pour of dark fruit and a weird play-doh off-flavor with almost no carbonation.

Boo. Only gets points b/c it contains alcohol

#1827 - Blind-tasted except for the beer's name and brewery/country, zero reviews below read (yet!)...
L- An appetising 'gluggy' pour due to the heavily necked bottle, then 1/2 way though the pour becomes silent (no splashing) which tells me the ABV% is solid here. Very dark ruby/chestnut, pours clear. No sediment in bottle ie filtered. With a 3mm mid-tan fine-bubble foam cap. ps @+10mins, holds very well.
S- Deep/dark yet dry too. Heavy malts that remind me of malt-loaf black bread.
T- Boom, pungent. Wow... let this rest/develop on the palate. Slightly sour, deep/thick and heavy, treacle aspects though not sweet, as a dry aspect continues below in parallel. It's like extract of well roasted British Xmas pudding, heavily roasted deep dried fruits, raisons etc.
F- Briefly sour on the front then swiftly into mega-pungent complexity with richness and hoppy-dry notes. CO2 in the mouth is great
O- This beer certainly has 'heckle a lot going on'. Interesting to me is that if you had this intensity of flavour from a trad Belgian say Quad you might be fearing it would develop sweet notes as it begun warming 1/2 way down. Here the sour-dry aspect seems to help counter that. This is a biiig beer, so one for slow sipping for me. Possibly a divider amongst people; it's something a bit different but the sour aspect in a beer otherwise this big/deep/pungent might not work for some others.... like my wife, who thinks it's like a Quad with grapefruit aspects to it and did not enjoy it at all.
Review/scoring all done, now the reveal, I get to read the lables to see what I missed! Brewed with three varieties of malts, nothing else to surprise from the trad ingredients.

This comes out of the bottle heavy. Deep, murky mahogany, capped by a thin off-white head. The free floating specks of yeast remind me that I shouldn't have poured the full bottle. C'est la vie.

It oozes slow notes of manuka honey, toasted dark bread, and sticky brown raisins. Graham cracker, toffee, and chocolatey coffee. I want to chew it more than I want to drink it.

Sweet coffee grounds and piles of honey laden toast crust come through wonderfully rich. A pinch of roast pairs with an earthy and minerally dryness that makes for a perfect bitter contrast. Dark raisins and burnt toffee sit with weight in the middle.

The less than average level of carbonation increases the perception of its sweetness and imparts a slick feel. It sits on the heavier end of medium and boasts a healthy sense of balance, stemming from the underlay of dry and bitter.

A testament to the complexity of malt. It's rich and delicate at the same time. The only sign of its 8.5% ABV is on the label itself. Life is great and this beer is a reminder of just that.

Pours a muddy brown color with a finger of head. The nose and flavor are straight up bready and malty goodness. There is a touch of sweetness in the middle of the flavor profile and a nicely contrasting semi-dry finish.

My only critique might be that the mouthfeel thins out a bit on the finish. Other than that, this offering can hang with the finest malt bombs of any style.

Highly enjoyed this bottle, not often you get an altbier of this quality. Very, very dark brown body with two fingers khaki foam. Smells of toasted toffee, brown sugar, smoke, raisin, prune, molasses, slight tobacco, and earth. Taste is boozier and sweeter than the smell, but pretty much the same flavors with decent hop bitterness on the crisp finish. Feel is a little sweet and heavy for the style, chewy, and somewhat savory, especially as it warms.

Dark walnuts; raisin, wood + brown sugar; bread crust, rum barrel, fig danish, walnut, boozy brandy end + vinous port barrel linger.

Intense. Almost a bourbon barrel nose. Intense flavors, though it loses the sessionability of an alt. Mighty, if not quite my thing.

Complete masterpiece of altbier.
Brown with decent beige head, nice retention and laces.
Smell - rich, dried fruits, fig, dates, prunes and so on.
Taste - well-balanced, dried fruits, caramel, some hops in the aftertaste.
Full body, sticky, syrupy, soft carbonation.
