Hand delivered from a cousin in Germany.

A - pours a dark brown with a small head that quickly disipates. Nice lacing on the glass with each sip.

S - the smell is faint all the way around. Smells slight roasty.

T - YUM. This is a great session beer. Tastes are mild and don't offend.

M - great carbonation. Makes the mouth happy.

This beer is super drinkable. At 4.7%, you can put a couple down at a sitting and really enjoy. Too bad I only have one!

: I purchased this bottle from South Lyndale Liquors in 2014 and drank it immediately. It was bottled 11/2011 and good until 11/2013. The importer/distributor buys huge lots of these then doles them out over a few years. L: It pours hazy amber under a 2’ white foam cap. S: Slight wet cardboard with washed out muted hop aromas. T: There is some staleness on the palate but rich malt flavors and some traces of fruit work their way through. The hops are muted. Starts lightly sweet and dries out on the finish. F: Creamy, medium body and carbonation. O: This is a good brewer shafted by a bad importer/distributor. Check the date codes before buying.

Purchased at Champagne's in MI for $3.99 for a 330ml swing top bottle. Served at 4deg C in a tulip

A- Opens well and pours a nice 2" white head that films out in a minute. Medium brown color. Unfiltered.

S- Touch sour. Bit metallic. Raisins.

T- Light malt. Metallic touch is back again. The bottle opened well so it's not an oxidation issue. Figs and a lightly burnt nut flavor. Not a massive fan.

M- Dry and tart. Burnt flavor comes back here too

O- Was looking forward to this one for a while but is a big let down. Not a big fan. Will not buy again. Too roasted or burnt for my liking

Food Pairing

This ok beer went well with..... Grilled cheese sandwich with tomato, onion and good 'ol cheese.

Awesome looking corked brown bottle. "Bottled on" date reads 10.08. The bottle alone is what made me want to pop it open and give it a shot.

A - Pours a beautiful deep dark brownish red color. It sports an extravagant 3 finger off-white head. Looks simply wonderful.

S - Sweet nose with loads of fruit: raisin, plumb, prune, apple, pear, grape. A hint of spice: cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, ginger...a lot going on in the nose. Makes me excited to taste!

T&M - Hello Raisin flavor! I hear ya! It also has grapes, grape leaves, burnt toast, coffee, barley backbone and hops on the swallow, subtle caramel and pepper flavorings pop up. Chocolate is in there on the back end. toffee. coco powder. the coco powder and raisin taste lingers for what seems like forever. nothing off, everything is fabulous.

D - This beer just ripped my face off. It's not a "kick you in the ass" american barleywine kinda face rippage, but a "damn thats perfect" kinda rippage. You rarely come across this kind of brew. It's so complex that i had a hard time putting to words everything that i was tasting. It's a rock solid brew. I wouldn't change a damn thing! I't's so incredibly drinkable, looks amazing, taste amazing and complex, perfect balance on the mouthfeel. This just became one of my favorite beers, and a newfound favorite style. perfection is a word that comes to mind regarding this wonderful brew.

I will most certainly have many more!

Appears very hazy and dark brown with orange-ish highlights. The dense, off-white head retains its lumpy shape for a long time. The aroma is somewhat sour with grainy malt and caramel. The flavor is dominated by assertive, moderately sweet, bready malt. It’s fairly bitter and a little metallic. The finish is grainy with a puckering woodiness. It’s medium bodied with a good deal of frothy carbonation and bite.

The flavor seems skewed in favor of the sourness and bitterness at first, but after a few sips the malt becomes more apparent and strikes a good balance with the other flavors. It’s very crisp and super drinkable (especially with only 4.7% abv). I would have liked to try the regular alt first to see how much of a difference the sediment makes. I imagine there is less sourness in its aroma and flavor. Nevertheless, there’s plenty of tasty malt in this one to make it enjoyable, and the bitterness plays its part well without overpowering the maltiness.

Served from the cask at the brewery in Dusseldorf.

A - Pours a nice reddish brown with a decent head that laces well.

S - Malty sweetness mixed with carmel notes. Hop aroma in this Alt was the strongest of those we tried.

T - Taste was a mix of roasted malt sweetness, and caramel. Hop bitterness was fairly high.

M - Light with good carbonation. Crisp and refreshing.

O - A good Altbier that was very tasty and refreshing. This wasn't my favorite Altbier that we had but definitely is one that I would drink again.

Brewed three days ago on Monday August 9th. Popped the half litre brown swing top bottle while watching a meteor shower.

When poured this strong brown coloured alt gave an effortless thick tannish head. From first sip things began smoothly, softly, followed by a pause before turbo charging to a long deliciously lingering assertive finish that was so astonishingly complex but subtle with breathtaking finesse. The finish just went on and on and on and on. Did I mention the finesse?Absolute absolute heaven. Without hesitation one of the very best beers on the planet.

A - Poured out a cloudy, burgundy color with a two-finger, egg shell white head of bubbly foam. It left some sudsy trails of lace.

S - It smelled very toasty! Nice malts with a floral and fruity nose.

T - Great toasted malt flavor. A mild spice from the hops and some sweet fruits added balance.

M - Crisp, sharp and dry. An easy-drinking lager that is light bodied.

D - This is a really good alt. I'm glad I finally tried a beer from Uerige.

A - very dark brown, nice small head.

S - Raisins, dark fruit - plum or prunes. Heavy caramelized sugars, no hops noted.

T - Sherry-like character, tartness in aftertaste. Pruney with roast character without bitterness. A slight peppery character coming from the hops.

M - Smooth with low carbonation, tingling on the back of the tongue and slightly tart.

O - This is a very enjoyable beer with fruit and tartness, nice complexities, well balanced between roasted character. I'm reliably told that this bottle may have been on the shelf for a while - the sherry-like richness is most likely a result of some oxidation. Apparently when fresher, it is also known to have a brightness to the hops that was missing entirely in this bottle. As this was quite good, I'd really like to try a fresher sample.

Big thanks to Thirstybird for the opportunity to try this. 500ml flip top bottle. 5 Mar./5 Jul. indicated on the label. Pours a hazy bronze with a loose white head that quickly disperses into a skim. Nose really has no detectable smell. Taste reveals a peppery quality as well as a light toasted malt bill. There is a slight, residual German yeast presence detectable at the finish. Mouthfeel is light-medium in body (but closer to light), with a prickly carbonation. Overall, I found this beer a bit difficult to evaluate - in part because I just haven't had that many Altbiers as well as the fact that flavors and aromas didn't really assert themselves.

Purchased and sampled this bottle at Uerige Treff im Carsch-Haus.

This altbier poured a hazy/cloudy amber color with tall, fluffy, white foam that persisted. The smell was hoppy and malty with a touch of yeast. The taste was yeasty and malty, with very light notes of caramel, with good bitter hoppiness to balance, and with light notes of apples and pears. The mouthfeel was dry with medium body and moderate carbonation. The finish was fruity and hoppy. This was a very good and enjoyable beer.
