Uerige Alt is the most bittered beer in Germany. In spite of this (or just for that reason), this legendary Altbier from Düsseldorf is so full-bodied, aromatic and wholesome.
Our top-fermented specialty has been brewed since 1862 from barley malt, caramel malt, roasted malt, hops, water - and with our very special Uerige yeast.
Our Uerige Alt is regularly chosen among the ten best beers in Germany. It has an alcohol content of 4.7% and a minimum fresh date of eight weeks.
Unser Uerige Alt wird regelmäßig unter die zehn besten Biere Deutschlands gewählt. Es hat einen Alkoholgehalt von 4,7% und ein Mindestfrischedatum von acht Wochen.

At the brewery in Düsseldorf downing quarter liter pours as they bring around trays full of glasses of already poured beer. Served cold with quite a head. Beautiful amber beer. Rich, earthy, and malty with a well-balanced hoppy finish and feel. Easy to discern the difference in quality between this and Schumacher, but still quite good. Seems more touristy here since this is in the Altstadt area of town.

333 ml Bottle
Glass: 0,4 L Stange
Look:
Chestnut brown with some mahogany highlights. Thick and creamy 1-finger high light tan head has impressive staying power. When the head does dissipate, it leaves excellent lacing along the glass.
Aroma:
Muted dark malts and grains. Some nuttiness.
Taste:
Dark and toasted bread. Grains. Pine nuts. Herbal hops show up and provide mild but noticeable spice notes. The sip dries out considerably as it progresses.
Feel:
Smooth and clean. The finish is dry. Body is a shade or 2 lighter than medium
Overall:
A nice enjoyable beer. Everything is nicely balanced and drinks quite well.

An excellent brown ale. Light bodied, richly flavored, super clean on the palate. An absolute delight to drink.
Pours a somewhat muddy chestnut color with a thin but dense and persistent head.
Nose is muted, mildly malty and vaguely fruity.
Taste is wonderfully balanced and smooth. Clean, light, grain essence. Just enough herbal hop bitterness to finish clean. A bit of rich nuttiness showing up on the aftertaste. Really wonderful.

I had this on draft 1/3/22 @ the Hopleaf.
Mostly opaque brown/orange appearance.
Nice khaki head; strong, frothy lace.
Oak, cream & mild pine notes in the nose.
Medium mouthfeel.
Oak, cream & mild pine flavors.
Bold but balanced. I'd have another!

had the great privilege to enjoy this beer at the brewery’s pub in duesseldorf, it’s really quite hard to rate this beer objectively, as i enjoyed the experience of being at the pub here so much and the whole process of getting the beer and having your beer mat marked that the beer was almost an afterthought, it was quite a tasty little beer though, could have gladly sat there hours drinking glass after glass of the stuff

330ml swing top bottle into a pint glass. Appears to have been bottled sometime in June 2021.
Looks fantastic in the glass. Clear reddish amber body. Generous off white head persists in good form throughout, leaving a sheet of lacing.
Aroma is muted. Malty with a little something extra.
On tasting, there is a delightful dry spicy bitterness to this one. Seems well supported by the malt base. Found myself quickly reaching for the next mouthful.
Mouth between medium and full, finish dry spice, possibly pumpernickel?
Overall, very good beer indeed. Wouldn't say no to another. And then another.
