Dirty Little FreakDirty Little Freak
Notes: Dirty Little Freak Coconut Caramel Chocolate Brown Ale, first brewed in 2014, takes the traditional American Brown Ale and gives it a sensual new twist – Coconut! This medium-bodied, 5.8% abv brown ale is a feast for the senses from its dominant blend of warm, roasted malt, coconut, caramel, and chocolate flavors barely restrained by a gentle hop bite, to its tantalizingly satisfying finish. But if you submit to our Dirty Little Freak, be warned: there is no safe word.

Pours deep reddish brown with off white head that quickly resolves. Smells strongly of caramel, hint of chocolate, a smell I didn’t recognize (I’m told its coconut – quite pleasant btw). Sweet malts/toffee flavors forward with unsweetened cocoa and a hoppy kick at the finish and clean palate. Light bodied, pleasantly carbonated.

Pleasantly carbonated brown ale with some unique attributes – I rather enjoyed it. A good desert beer (if there is such a thing) and the quality was solid (not the novelty brew I had anticipated). Would definitely buy again.

Brown ale with caramel (vanilla?), coconut, and chocolate. Poured from a bottle into a Brooklyn Brewery tulip. Dark, somewhat cloudy pour with a good 1.5 fingers of frothy tan head and average retention. I definitely get the coconut on the nose, but it isn't overpowering. I also get some toasted malt.

Medium body with a firm feel and an interesting flavor that brings different components to the table. Some toffee-like sweetness up front, a little coconut, then cocoa powder, some hops, and a cola-like finish.

I tried this beer on tap and liked it a lot more. It definitely loses something in the bottle. Either that, or the gas from the tap softens some of the flavors and adds richness to others. Either way, a nice take on what many feel is a dull style. The coconut flavor is well-integrated and not too strong or weak. A porter along these lines would be most welcome.

Found this at my local Beermuda mixed and matched for around 2 dollars. Into a pint glass.
A - Very nice deep brown color with a 1/2 inch of mocha head that sticks around for quite a bit. Really good looking medium body on this brown.
S - Very strong toasted coconut with chocolate malt tones. Not subtle in any way just in your face. Getting some underlining hazelnut smells from the brown ale as well. Sweet.
T - Pretty much like Kona's Koko Brown but much more robust toasted coconut and great chocolate malt tones. Finish is rather sweet with some hazelnut twang and some hops. Really loving it.
M - Light to medium somewhat chewy. Decent body.

Overall this is a winner what a great experimental brew. I had my doubts with this since most beers they make are rather lackluster but this may be the best beer I had from them to date. I have never experienced such robust coconut flavor in a beer so if thats your thing BUY THIS NOW!

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle. Has a cola color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of chocolate, some coconut. Taste is like a mounds bar, yummy and tasty. Some alcohol is present. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a unique beer worth seeking out.

12 oz bottle poured into a shaker pint.

Deep chestnut brown with 1 fingers of tan head. Good clarity, okay retention, and low carbonation.

Coconut, sugary caramel, and milk chocolate. Pretty damn close to a Caramel deLite.

Big amounts of coconut and sugary caramel. There's a mix of milk chocolate and scorched chocolate with hints of charcoal. Touches of brown sugar and hazelnut along with a restrained earthy hop bitterness.

Medium-light bodied, smooth, and oily.

Easy drinking and pretty damn close to a Girl Scout cookie.

On tap at Rattle n Hum, NYC. This was a complete surprise as the name suggest nothing. The dark bronze to brown color & creamy head leave some lacing, but it's the aroma that is the first thing I noticed.

There's a fight between the cocoa & coconut to be up front. IMO, it's a tie, & as they say "that's a good thing". A bit 'chewey' for an ale, brown or otherwise, but I'll gladly take this in big mouthfuls as it's so very tasty.

If you like assertive flavor without too much sweetness, this is for you.

Surprisingly light brown on the pour; darker in the glass with garnet and purple highlights on the edges. Head production is solid, and retention is excellent.

Sweet aroma: chocolate, toasted coconut, caramel and toffee, earthy hops, and nuts.

Fairly thin feel, but very smooth. A touch bitter up front with hops, dark chocolate, and toasted malt leading the way, but on the back half, toasted coconut and caramel really take over. Very smooth and accessible; not too sweet. Slight pine and citrus peel from the hops.

Bottled on 6/15/15. 12oz bottle poured into a tulip. Pours a very dark brown; creamy tan head that sticks around and leaves sticky lacing. The aromas are pretty plain and subtle. Faint hints of chocolate. Not much going on the aroma department, but everything becomes alive in the flavor department. Lots of chocolate and vanilla. The coconut is definitely there. Caramel, toffee and butterscotch. Some hazelnut in the mix. Subtle sweetness, not over the top at all. It has a solid bitterness as well. Maybe some coffee in the mix. Mouthfeel is great. It's on the lighter side of medium-bodied with moderate carbonation; very creamy and fluffy. Alcohol goes unnoticed. Smooth and easy drinking.

This is a nice brown ale. Very flavorful. Makes for a nice dessert beer.

Amazing Brown Ale offering! Received as a Christmas gift and was one of my favorite gifts. Chocolate, toasted coconut, vanilla. Lots of different flavors going on including a little hops in the background. Nothing overwhelming. Beautiful!

Poured into tulip glass. It pours a very dark cola with a one-finger ecru colored head and fairly minimal lacing. It smells of roasted malt, chocolate, and coconut. The taste follows the nose but the dominant taste is shaved coconut. There is also baker's chocolate, caramel, and expresso. It finishes fairly bitter with a slight hoppiness. This ale is rather thin in body, moderately carbonated, and is very easy to drink at 5.8% ABV. Overall, it is an interesting Brown Ale that is fun to drink. I like coconut so I enjoyed it. From a coconut, if not a stylistic perspective, I prefer Death by Coconut.
