Notes / Commercial Description:
Dirty Little Freak Coconut Caramel Chocolate Brown Ale, first brewed in 2014, takes the traditional American Brown Ale and gives it a sensual new twist – Coconut! This medium-bodied, 5.8% abv brown ale is a feast for the senses from its dominant blend of warm, roasted malt, coconut, caramel, and chocolate flavors barely restrained by a gentle hop bite, to its tantalizingly satisfying finish. But if you submit to our Dirty Little Freak, be warned: there is no safe word.

Poured into tumbler. Medium brown color like a darker iced tea. Smell is toasty malt with caramel, sugar and coconut. Taste is light mouthfeel but not watery. He first sip was good but got to be sickening. I drank the first but left the rest alone for months before dumping them.

Not my cup of beer. Had to return it.
Just mediocre.

12 oz bottle purchased as part of a mix-six. Weird metallic taste, wayyyyyyyy too sweet, not something I would want to drink again. Typical DuClaw brew.

Had high hopes on the smell. Taste was more like cheap hot chocolate.

Artificial aftertaste. I could not finish it.

Poured into my 1964 Worlds Fair Schaefer pilsner glass, I was greeted by an impressive head and a lace that lasted to the end. And the aroma of coconut. Great? Not really. You could take a wonderful brown ale, like Cigar City's Maduro, add a touch of Goya coconut milk and have a much better coconut beer experience if that's what you're looking for. As a home brewer, I'm always searching for something new and different. But it usually goes into the boil or the primary fermentation and it's subtle, and real fruit, herbs, whatever. So there's a hint of "the thing" and the familiar taste of beer. No need for over blown extracts of anything. First and last try of this one.

I did not like this.
Many others appear to.
But, I did not like.

My first drink reaction was to say "no" aloud to myself. This beer is just not tasty. It feels like waking up in the morning for work.

Had a really gamey aftertaste. I did not recognize it as chocolate or coconut. In the future if I want chocolate and coconut I will get a Mounds bar.

Appearance: Pours a clean ruby, with a medium to smallish head of bone white suds. Very little to no lace at all.

Aroma: Vanilla flavoring, sweetness…malty and sort of off-balance already.

Taste: The vanilla flavor is most prominent, with a touch of a coconut (but that’s quite subdued). What I get tastes artificial and overly sweet, with a bitter finish that only makes this one tough to choke back. Didn’t like this one at all.

Overall: No thanks.

Look: Slightly opaque, medium dark brown, thin sudsy head ring.
Smell: Some coconut, but mostly a strong smell of chocolate flavoring. Fake chocolate flavoring like that chocolate magic marker I had in kindergarten. Gross.
Taste: Strong, in-your-face flavor of extracts and imitation chocolate flavoring. Some coconut. It was hard to taste anything else.
Mouthfeel: A good medium body, not too carbonated.
