Notes: Guilty Filthy Soul Imperial Chocolate Rye Porter, a sliver medalist at both The World Beer Cup and Great American Beer Festival, is medium-full bodied with rich aromas and flavors of roasted malt and cocoa accented by underlying notes of peppery rye, and a strong 7.7% abv. The addition of chocolate to the beer imbues it with inimitable flavor, a velvety mouthfeel, and a crisp, bittersweet finish. Lay down your burdens and pick up our award winning Imperial Chocolate Rye Porter - you won’t regret it.

12 oz bottle poured into a snifter

A: black as night, not much head

S: this beer has some chocolate on it, very light licorice, nice beer I get a touch of rye

T: this beer envelops your tongue in chocolate but it's not over the top its cloying yet almost perfect, it backs off just a the tight moment maybe the rye makes this beer perfect.

M: it's nice deeper than a porter would be it's got a very nice feel

O: impressed I went in thinking this would be average it's actually quite good I'd drinking this any day of the week and I like the touch of rye just a nice beer

12 oz. bottle

Keeping it real, as always. This brew pours pretty intense for a Porter. It's almost on Imperial Stout status if it weren't for the brown hues around the glass. It's dense black with a nice deep mocha head. Very impressive. The aroma is very good. Sweet chocolate with some roasted grains. The flavor is just as good as the aroma. Dense chocolate with spicy toasted backend. Finishes bittersweet with some toasted marshmallows in the aftertaste. Lingering bitterness nice touch to cut the malt sweetness. The feel on the brew is medium built with a mellow carbonation.

Overall: I'm usually not a fan of DuClaw but this brew is a game changer. It's balanced to the point it's almost too sweet yet doesn't cross that boarder. This is a very nice chocolate Porter with the rye spiciness adds character and depth. The bitterness might be to high for some, yet I find it to add another touch of diversity to make this brew memorable. I'm blabbing to the point, this brew is enjoyable and recommended.

12 oz bottle, there was a date stamped on neck but it's smeared.

looks great - jet black with thick creamy tan head. good head retention and lacing. nice pleasant milk chocolate aroma. same with the taste - milk chocolate, but finishes a bit earthy. not too sweet, good balance. very smooth silky mouthfeel - thicker, lower carbonation.

A: A very dark black in color with a tan head.

S: Huge chocolate with malt, and molasses following.

T: Chocolate, with caramel, and a touch of licorice, with a nice dash of spice rounding out earthy bitterness in the finish.

M: Medium to medium heavy in body, fairly high carbonation,

O: Overall a pretty tasty brew. Would recommend to friends.

Intrigued by a rye chocolate porter I pick this up for around 2 bucks. Into a pint glass

A - Actually quite attractive a deep dense porter looks like syrup molasses with a inch plus mocha head that slowly pulls back to the best lacing all night!
S - Roasted coffee and chocolate notes a plenty with spicy rye in the back end. Really hope its not too dry I hate a dry rye.
T - Well its good but nothing super complex. Just mild sweet chocolate similar to a Hershey bar followed by spicy dry rye and finishes mildly chalky with porter tones with a lingering bitterness.
M - Medium bodied sort of slick but not watery.

Overall I took the score down a bit even though its not an overlay dry and spicy rye beer I was really put off by the mixture of it with the roast it left a lingering unpleasant taste on my palate. Ow well it doesn't keep me away from DuClaw and I appreciate the experimentation they seem to be the only guys keeping it "real" these days.

Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a black color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is strong of chocolate, some licorice. Taste is chocolate, roasted malts, some rye, a touch of alcohol as it warms. Feels full bodied in the mouth and overall is a beer worth seeking out.
