According to the label the name of this one is derived from its stripped down simplicity. Sometimes less is more. Malt, yeast, a little citrus. Nothing fancy here and thus nothing to disagree with.

Poured from the bottle into a nonic pint glass. Not always a big fan of the style but the beer was free what can I say.

One finger off white head, minimal retention and very soapy looking but manages a thin puck and thick bubbled collar while settling. Bright brass orange and yellow body, quite clear, and medium amounts of cola sized carbonation. Couple bubbles rise up fast, and a bit of a micro fine haze of bubbles in the middle.

Nose is grainy, caramel sweet, candy smelling, and has more of an English bitter quality to it. Lots of sensing biscuit malt quality and a very good cookie quality dough to it as well. Feels a little out of place.

Palate comes off very lifeless. Has a total English mild backbone and a poor one at that. Odd out of place hop finish of pith and citrus zest on the aftertaste but mild and very fleeting. Biscuit mid palate and a huge watery notes that create a watered sugary caramel flavor. Where is the wheat depth and chew in this?

I may not be a big fan of this style, but this doesn't even taste like a blonde ale, and unfortunately doesn't taste like a very good beer at all. Drinkable, but a beer that comes off like a bit of an identity crisis, as it just seems like something that was hastily thrown together with no plan.

Admittedly, this beer is better than I thought it was going to be with a name like "bare ass". Decent grain tone with some seemingly orange fruit tone going on as well. Carbonation is a bit high and full, but just a bit. Easy enough to drink. I wouldn't go back to it, but it turns out being not too shabby.

Unlike the last two I reviewed (Sweet Baby Jesus and Dirty Little Freak) this one actually restored my faith in DuClaw. And I'm a Marylander by God! I drank this from a pint glass poured from the bottle.

Nice golden color with a white quarter inch head. No retention or lacing to note. Not an overwhelming amount of bubbles.

Smelled like an average blonde ale, nothing note worthy comes to mind.

Tasted like beer done right. The previous two were loaded with sweetness and flavor to the point of distraction. This was simply a beer trying to be beer.

Mouthfeel was just right, bold and thick enough to let you know it isn't water (or light beer, same difference) but not so heavy you couldn't drink more than one.

Overall I am thankful DuClaw at least has the basics right and can make a solid brew with out mucking it up with all the artificial crazy candy bar flavors.

On draft at DuClaw in Bowie, MD.

The beer is transparent and golden yellow hued. The aroma is pretty weak, offering hints of sweet malt and light fruit. The flavor is clean, but pretty bland for the most part. A bit of light toast and sweet malt, light grain. Thin bodied, easy to drink. Moderately low carbonation. Overall, drinkable but unexciting.

A little out of season for a cold fall day but good just the same. More of a summer session beer. It poured a crystal clear gold. Head dissipated rather quickly. Smell very fruity almost like a wit. Taste was a little sweet and fruity upfront and then very clean at the end. Almost dry at the end. Mouthfeel was great. Very light and crisp. Could have had a number of these if the weather was a little nicer.

A: Light tangerine orange with a slight haze and mixture of micro-macro effervesce rising at a rapid rate. Dirty eggshell colored head was thin with a skimmy covering and was weakly holding providing little to no gracing coverage.

S: Aroma was dry flowers, hay, oranges and light pilsner grains. Lightly dry.

T: Flavor was lightly dry pilsner and hay malting with some lightly dry oranges and flowers. A touch of herbaceous hops with some light grapefruit peel, tart orange that was thankfully quick and clean off the tongue upon the swallow.

M: fairly sharp carbonation wise, a bit alkaline and powdery with a malty-syrupy backing of light to medium density.

O: Overall wasn't to impressed at first, but the pilsner grain backing and semi-dry flowery hops soon grows on you coming more to light and saving this from a mediocre rating.

Draft at DuClaw Bowie.

Pours clear pale copper-gold with a soapy white cap, nice lacing.

Nose is grassy, but fruity, lightly toasty even. Not what I was expecting, but nice.

Taste is lightly caramelly, toasty, nice grassy hop note, lightly bitter finish.

Mouthfeel is moderately carbonated over a light body. A bit creamy, mild.

Pours a horrific floater ridden blonde color with white head. No matter where I find a Duclaw beer nowadays they look mishandled, I've had many different bottles from different sources. The aroma is light a wheat focused, about average for the style. The beer falls flat on taste, with chalky wheat and faded lemon tea bringing a few far between scant flavors. Light chalky body that falls limp on the mouth. I liked Duclaw at first but I seem to be enjoying every new beer I have from them less and less.

Pours a golden color with 1/2 inch head. Very good example of the style. Clean taste of toasted malt, honey, with a hoppy backbone that mixes well. I will pick this up again.

Off-tap this beer was indeed a bright, blonde/gold color with a white head that left thin bands of lacing off the collar. The aroma was faint, mostly a blend of sweet malt and dry grains with a hint of hops. The flavors were similar. I tasted the fresh dry, grainy malt predominantly with some notes of bread coupled with a light hops presence. Though it leaned towards the sweet side of the spectrum the finish was crisp and clean. The body was medium/light, the mouthfeel a little above average and the carbonation effervescent.

Enjoyed this beer on tap at Duclaw in Bowie, MD.

A: Pours a clear golden hue with no head or lacing.

S: Slightly fruity aroma with hints of light grains and malts.

T: Malty flavor with a slightly fruity background and mild hops.

M: Medium body and medium carbonation.

O: Decent beer – easy drinker – make a good session beer.

Reviewed from notes.

Pours a golden color with a white head and not too much lacing. Nose brings some grassy, grain, and slight floral hops. The taste is a mostly grain with some light grassy character. Light body with good carbonation. Drinks pretty well and actually has some flavor.
