The first foray into our Hop Continuum Series, our flagship IPA infused with blood orange juice, proved so popular that it transcended the series to stand on its own outside as a worthy companion to the original Neon Gypsy. Notes of grapefruit, citrus, and pine from a blend of seven hops balances the tart sweetness of blood orange juice for a flavor profile that roams your palate long after the beer’s bittersweet finish.

Continuuming to winnow away at the confounded Bottle Backlog here at Chez Woody and this surfaced! I promise to be gentle, baby!
From the bottle: "This crisp, clean IPA blends the grapefruit, citrus, & pine notes of 7 hops with the tart sweetness of Blood Orange for a flavor profile that roams your palate long after the beer's bittersweet finish. Pop the top and ... enter the continuum!"; "Respect the Fluid"; "Craft Be Cherished. Rules Be Damned."
I did, indeed, Pop! the top and engaged the fluid inside in a gentle pour that raised three-plus fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, tawny head that left loads of sticky lacing in its wake. Color was a slightly-hazy Amber to Deep Amber/Light Copper (SRM = > 9, < 13). The nose was pleasant with notes of the titular blood orange commingled with light pine & grapefruit. This could easily have been over the top, but it was evincing restraint, at least on the nose. Mouthfeel was medium. The taste was intensely pine & orange, like taking one each of those jelly mint leaves and a jelly orange slice, putting them in your mouth and biting down. What, you never did that as a kid? My maternal grandmother always had a jar of them out when I was little. The finish was semi-dry with the orange lending it an unexpected (but pleasant) sweetness. It is precisely these kinds of beers that renew my interest in being a self-avowed hophead!

Had at DuClaw brewpub in Arundel Mills, MD. Beautiful deep-orange golden haze, slight foamy head that didn't hang around too long. Weak floral hops smell with a blood orange twist. Taste is a delicate balance of sweetness and bitterness, nice job on the blend of fruit and hops. I like the blood orange trend going on right now and this represents a great offering in the club.

Pours a nice looking orange color with a slight haze and plenty of soapy lacing arching the glass very well. It looks like a fantastic unfiltered IPA. The aroma smells like artificial grapefruit flavor, or fermented grapefruit skin. Not really the hoppy grapefruit notes that come naturally in an IPA, this is just overkill.
The taste is like grapefruit juice with a few dashes of bitters in it, some pine comes through at the end and helps it a bit, but really the fruit flavor added here seems more distracting than complimentary, with flavors clashing of pine and heavy sweet grapefruit citrus flavor derived from Blood Oranges.
Soft, smooth mouthfeel that is complimentary and aids in drinkability. In the right setting these would drink like Sunny Delight.
Overall, its an average at best IPA, but did we need more Blood Orange beer around? Had this offering been advertised or presented more as a fruit beer I would have rated it completely differently and much higher. The fruit takes away from it being an IPA, almost bringing it into an entirely different style category. Call me weird, it seems that every one else is spiking their American India Pale Ales with fruit punch nowadays, but I just don't get it.
