The 9th experiment in the eXile series is a robust stout brewed with Cafe Racer XXX 865cc coffee to turbocharge it with the intense flavors & aromas of locally roasted coffee beans. X-9 is at the line; pop the top and... pin the throttle!

You never know with these collaborations - sometimes hit, sometimes miss...this one is pretty much a hit...As far as this being "retired", I'm not sure as I picked this up recently in 2017...(didn't taste like a 'shelf-turd' to me...)

Beautifully black liquid with a thick tan foam but no lacing to really mention. The foam has only a small bit of staying power at that. The smell was by far the best aspect of this brew - strong coffee scent, strong roasted malts, and even some chocolaty notes, superb, really. Mouthfeel was light-bodied and a tad watery, but not necessarily distracting from the overall experience. I enjoyed the taste of strong coffee and the roasted malts, even took note of some caramel in my opinon. Overall, this is very good, truly enjoyed this collaboration and was so glad I picked it up.

Poured into a short 10 whisky glass, bottled on 9/18/17. Pours near black with a 2 finger tan head that leaves some thin wisps of lace behind.

Smell is dry coffee grounds, cocoa nibs, vanilla bean, and hints of toffee.

Taste follows one dimensional in the best way possible, really tasty.

Mouthfeel is a little bigger than medium, mild carbonation, maybe a little dry, and excellent drinkability.

Overall this stuff is just very very tasty and the price was right.

GROSS!!! It is very thin for a Stout. It smelled and tasted like it was run through a barrel of used coffee grounds. Poured into a tulip glass the head is maybe 1 finger and dissipates quickly without much lacing at all. I'm a HUGE fan of coffee stouts and have tried many. This is by far the worst Ive ever had.

Traditional optics. Nice robust coffee aroma which sadly doesn't translate so much to the tongue. It is there along with your normal stout flavors but there is a bit of a strong fusel taste underneath which holds this back.
