Bottled on 11/27/15. 12oz bottle poured into a tulip. Pours a dark brown, almost black, with a small khaki head that leaves solid retention and lacing. The aromas are amazing. Smells awesome. Tons of chocolate and the peanut butter really shines. Hints of coffee and hazelnut as well. Malts are there. The flavors follow the nose perfectly. Tons of peanut butter. Lots of chocolate syrup in the finish. More hazelnut. Slightly roasty. Solid cocoa malt backbone. Bittersweet. Alcohol goes unnoticed. Mouthfeel is nice. It's full-bodied with moderate carbonation. Very smooth and easy to drink. It's fun to drink and very enjoyable.

This is an awesome beer. I'm personally not picking up any artificial notes. Great aromas and great flavors. Well done. Highly recommended.

Had on tap at the brewery. 12/15/15
Look - Dark Brown with little to no head. When I swirled it in the glass it barely stuck to the side. Very little viscosity.
Smell - Mostly dark chocolate with dried peanut butter. I know someone else used "Dried Peanut Butter" to describe this and it didn't make sense to me until I smelled this beer. It smelled like peanut butter dust, lacking the depth of peanut butter and only a faint sense that peanuts were in the building when the beer was being brewed.
Taste - Dry, dark, roast chocolate overpower the peanut. No sweetness whatsoever.
Feel - thin and dry.
Overall - Not ordering this one again. The dry overly roasted flavor made it unpleasant to drink. Add in the artificial flavored peanut dust and it was downright unpleasant. Finish with a higher gravity, add some lactose, or do something to get a creamy peanut butter flavor.

I think SBJ is a fun beer. It has a funny name, think the style is quirky, and it's fun to share with non BAs to see what things you can do to beer. It's not the best peanut butter beer out there but it serves a purpose. I can see why you'd want an imperial version, but going from 6.5% to 9% is hardly worth it. FPS doesn't really serve a purpose. It doesn't improve on the good qualities of SBJ and adds a mess of flavors by trying to add just 2.5% abv. How do you even do that? Bump this up to 13%, barrel age it, add 15 pounds of peanut butter, charge 20 bucks a bottle and release it once a year...
It still might be a failure but it would be a fantastic failure and not this disaster of mediocrity.

Bottled on 11/19/18

Pours a thicker brownish-black with slightly more than a finger of mocha head that dissipates fairly quickly and leaves sparse, stringier lacing and a collar of thin foam.

Aroma is firmly nutty, specifically with light wafts of peanut and not a ton else; a bit of malt backbone here, but still fairly one-dimensional and bordering on artificial in the peanut notes.

Taste remains consistently nutty and vaguely artificial, but with a sturdy backbone of chocolate malt that adds a sort of creamy earthy quality to balance the sweetness.

Mouthfeel has a bit of body to it, with carbonation on the lighter side mostly substituted for an oily feel coming across the palate; smooth, easy, little booze, and somewhat sweet.

A marginally higher-ABV Sweet Baby Jesus, and a virtually indistinguishable counterpart at that. The weight to this one is what has it standing out by comparison, but on its own, this is a decently-done beer with an artificial quality still holding it back (too much so for my liking).

12 oz bottler poured into a snifter

A- Black with a two finger light tan head

S- Roasted peanuts and cocoa/milk chocolate, not much else, but pleasant.

T- Delivers on the description. Peanut butter and chocolate, some roasted malts. Good balanced between sweet and roasted flavors, not any real bitterness.

M- Smooth, medium body.

O- This is Sweet Bady Jesus kicked up to 9% and I'm not complaining. If you enjoy SBJ, this is a most have.

"Porter with Natural Flavors" - hey, the artificial flavors are gone probably!

Pours an extremely dark ruby color. The head is a finger high, and lighter tan in shade. Retention isn't particularly great, though some streaks of lacing stick to the glass.

Smells like a bigger Sweet Baby Jesus. Only in this case, there's more focus on the nutty qualities over the dark chocolate. It also seems like some roasted hints are trying to show up. Happily, there's less of a chemical presence here as well. I'm still a bit wary what the flavor profile will be like, but it smells promising (hey, so did SBJ...)

It opens up with loads of dark chocolate flavor. Around the mid-taste, a nice nuttiness shows up. These two flavors carry over into the back end, with additional twinges of roast and hops. I definitely get some subtle coffee notes like the bottle suggested. Sweetness builds up as this is consumed, but that only helps counter the bitterness. Okay, so it DOES become a bit cloying near the end. Still, the imperial nature of this beer manages to smooth out the weaknesses of Sweet Baby Jesus nicely.

The mouthfeel COULD have been a sugary-sweet disaster. Thankfully, it isn't. I could use a bit more creaminess and fullness pre-swallow, but that's forgivable considering it's a porter, not a stout. Some lingering sweetness stays behind - however, it's dry enough to be borderline easy drinking. Carbonation is middling, yet helps the texture to fill the mouth nicely.

Y'know what? This is what Sweet Baby Jesus should have been. It isn't so chemical and shockingly mediocre - instead it's surprisingly tasty. One is enough, though. Good work, DuClaw, for all your hit-and-miss efforts, this one is a hit. Actually, they could kill SBJ and flat-out replace it with this, and nobody would really care.

I shotgunned this. Big mistake!

It's too much. I loved the nose and head it held in the glass. Duclaw provides some explosively flavorful beers. This is one of them. But the chocolate tastes like unsweetened baker's chocolate. It's just over the top. It's best to split one with a friend.

Pours a nice dark chocolate with a mocha head. Aroma is strong of chocolate and peanut butter. Flavor is a little bitter, the peanut butter comes through but there's a sharpness to drinking it. It has a bit of an unbalanced flavor / mouthfeel. Overall solid but a more balanced beer would be great.

I've had this a few times, and although I judge it is a solid beer, and better than one other peanut butter porter/stout I had, this is simply not a beer I enjoy (I tend not to like peanut butter flavored food).

A very dark black color with a slight head and some lacing. Aroma has distinct hints of chocolate, peanut butter and coffee. The taste is a somewhat distinctive chocolate, peanut butter and coffee flavor. A nicely balanced light bodied beer with little carbonation. Nicely balanced porter with some distinctive flavors.

Look: It pours black with a dark brown head.

Smell: It has a heavy aroma of peanut butter, chocolate, plums, and coffee.

Taste: The taste is flavored with roasted malts, coffee, peanut butter, hints for fruits and floral hops.

Palate: There is a fairly moderate bitter finish with the floral hops and peanut butter being the finishing elements.

Overall: Is drinks like a porter, but there is a bit more fruit flavors and well as the addition of Peanut Butter. If you love Peanut Butter and like fruit, this is a good pick.
