Sampling a cellar temp bottle poured into a pint glass. The beer pours a clear chestnut hue with multiple streams of carbonation rise to the surface.
An eggshell white head of 5 cm foams up into a huge fluffy mushroom top of foam even with the gentlest of pours.
Aroma is some grainy malt and a bit of cocoa powder plus some rich nutty notes with hints of earthy hops in the background. Fairly mild nose overall, but not offensive in anyway.
First sip reveals an average body with mild spacious carbonation and a smooth texture.
The beer is easy to drink and would be great for sessioning. I get the same grainy malt and mild cocoa on the flavor with some toffee and with a bit of earthy and slightly bitey hops.

This is a well crafted example of a difficult style to brew. SImple yet interesting, quite a nice beer that I would enjoy again with friends.

12 oz bottle

Pours a lighter shade of tan, minor khaki cap leaving some strands of lacing.

Nutty and toffee notes on the sniff.

Light nuts and toffee again. Also milk chocolate and vanilla.

On the thinner side body wise

Decent enough, but nothing overly impressive....drinkable and enjoyable brown ale

Very toffee forward. Nice sweet and malty and certainly something I would get again if I was in the area. That said of all the DuClaw beers, I had on my trip, this is the one that did not blow me away.

12 oz undated bottle served in a snifter.

Pours dark brown; clear with ruby highlights. Thin head soon reduces to a partial top coat and ring.

Aroma: roasted nuts and toffee with dark bread, but something like a tartness too and not nearly as pleasant as it should be.

Flavor: lots of toffee but about equally bitter and sweet.

Feel: Medium body and medium-light carbonation.

12 oz bottle, poured into a pint glass

Appearance: Pours a pretty, cloudy brown color, with some reddish highlights that sparkles in the light. The head pours two fingers of oatmeal colored foam that quickly dissolved into a thin lacing of wispy clouds that barely covered the entire top of the beer.

Aroma: Very complex. Malty and bready up front, followed by tons of spice: cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, burnt orange peel, toffee. Finally, there are floral notes of clover and honey.

Taste: Not as strong as the aroma, but very good nonetheless. Very malty, yet very nutty too. The beer isn’t as sweet as its aroma, but there’s a looong finish of caramelized sugar and toffee, as well as some very subtle hoppy bitterness.

Mouthfeel: Effervescent with a lot of carbonation. With an ABV of 5.0%, there is there’s virtually no alcohol presence on the palate.

Overall: This is a very good brown ale, and unlike any other brown ale that I’ve had. Instead of being either malt of hop forward, it’s very nutty and toffee-like, even more than some nut brown ales that I’ve had. Very, very good. I’ll certainly be getting this again.

DuClaw "Euforia" Toffee Nut Brown Ale
12 oz. brown glass bottle, "BOTTLED 09/03/14"
$1.79 @ Total Wine & More, Cherry Hill, NJ

I'm glad to see that some brewers are still trying to keep the brown ale style alive; and this one is actually slightly unique.

It's a standard nut brown ale, although perhaps slightly darker than you might expect. It offers a nutty, very lightly chocolatey malt; and in this case, and actual toffee (slightly buttery, nutty and caramelish) component. It's got a median bitterness; and a smooth body. Some caramel lingers in the finish at first, but it eventually dries and some very low-level hops appear.

Even for those who normally avoid dark beers, I think they might still find this accessible. It's remarkably easy to drink, and for those who are looking for a little more flavor in their beer, it's still here. Nicely done.
