Imperial Chocolate Raspberry Stout. Get Double Naked. First brewed in 2012, Double Naked Fish pushes the traditional Stout style to a new dimension of flavor. Full-bodied and nearly black in color with a light tan head, Double Naked Fish swims away from the rest of the school with a flavor profile dominated by gourmet chocolate raspberry coffee and cocoa nibs for a taste experience that is truly unique. It hooks you with flavors and aromas of roast coffee, raspberry and dark chocolate, before releasing you to a dry, robust chocolaty finish. These enticing flavors, combined with a moderately strong 7.6% abv, make Double Naked Fish quite the catch.

12 ounce bottle - Total Wine & More in Greenville, South Carolina.

Appearance: Pours a very dark brown body with a small, light tan-hued head.

Smell: Moderate roast suggesting day-old coffee, low-grade chocolate. Not really finding any raspberry. Probably for the best, though there is an odd, slightly vegetal undertone in the nose.

Taste: A sweetish, cola-like taste and a bit tangy. Though a little jumped from the regular NF, it's basically the same mild roastiness, lifeless chocolate. Slight dingy berry flavor, though it doesn't really express itself well as something you'd call raspberry. Tangy, acidic finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Medium-low carbonation.

Overall: It's just not good and may even be a slight step down from the standard version.

Had this on 2012-10-21 (from tasting notes in a notebook I just found!) at Holy Hound in York, PA

A - Very dark brown with 1/4-finger tan head and good sheeted lacing.

S - Chocolate covered raspberry. Medium roasted malt. Not real aromatic.

T - Semi-sweet chocolate, candies raspberries, medium roasted grain, roasted bitterness and a touch of hop bitterness. Nice balance. Not overly sweet.

M - Medium-high body and medium carbonation. Nice body. Creamy and then a little bubbly.

O - Quite enjoyed it. Would have it again.

Double Naked Fish
Look: Pitch black with a nice dark tan head.
Smell: Rasberries, but to me it is a bit more like chocolate cake with cherries in it.
Taste: Sweet chocolate, coffee, the alcohol mixes well with the stout and hits you mid sip. The flavor of the booze
mixing with the stout is like a chocolate liqour and it follows with a bitterness of dark chocolate. The bitterness lingers on your tongue nicely. There is some rasberry in the flavor, but more of the chocolate.
mouth: somewhat thin, but not exactly watery
Overall: I didn't have the original version of this beer, but this one is really a great one. You will like it if you enjoy dark chocolate smoothly blended into a great tasting stout.

A good, interesting stout. No fake flavors, and the cherry/chocolate is more present in the smell, than in the taste. Hides the high alcohol well and is very drinkable. A decent pick for a strong, dark stout.

Pours opaque, black in color with 3/4 inch head. Taste is dark chocolate, coffee, raspberry, milk chocolate..and an odd aftertaste of mustard that I get from Naked Fish. Medium bodied, sweet..Is as advertised, imperial coffee and raspberry..Slighty below average stout. Unlike For Pete's Sake which benefited from imperialization,Double Naked Fish seems to be the same average beer with more alcohol. Will pass in the future.

Overall: Was fearing something harsh or out in left field--aka Duval's sweet baby jesus--but this was
actually surprisingly drinkable. Certainly better representation of the style, but as a one-off, not
bad at all. The raspberry is present in the nose and on the palate, but not overwhelming so. Other
notes of coffee and dark fruit present as well.

12 oz bottle; bottled on 28 Dec. 2015. Revisited in October 2017.

Faint dark malts, sweet chocolate and vegetative aromas with more prominent raspberry aroma. Improved (largely less vegetative) after it sat for a while.

Flavor: Quite a bit of raspberry and chocolate but not so much as to be objectionable or to entirely mask the dark malts. The level of raspberry clearly exceeds the other components. Faint or absent vegetative notes help make the flavor better than the aroma suggests. Mildly sweet bitter-sweet mix with a mildly bitter aftertaste.

Overall: recommended. Improved with some aging.

Of all the beers from recent memory, this one benefits the most from warming to room temperature. What was at first an overly bitter, overly carbonated brew settled down wonderfully after about 15 min, with a heftier mouthfeel and more pleasant balance between the bitter and the raspberry. Glad I was patient.
