22 oz bottle, poured into a pint glass
Appearance: Pours a beautiful, completely opaque, pitch-black color, with a quarter of a finger of white-colored head that quickly dissolved away into a thin lacing of foam that partially covered the top of the beer.
Aroma: Nice! Strong aromas of roasted malt, imparting notes of freshly baked dark bread, freshly ground coffee beans, a touch of subtle smoke. The chipotle really comes through too as there are strong aromas of smoked peppers, cumin, adobo. Very nice, very earthy.
Taste: Wow! Strong flavors of roasted malt and chipotle peppers up front, roasty, fruity, smoky, earthy, and…holy shit! There’s the heat from the chipotle peppers! I’m surprised at how much heat there is, especially since this beer is two years old! I also get some nice flavors of dark chocolate and a touch of brown sugar. Delicious!!
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied to slightly chewy, and pretty well carbonated, much more than I’m used to with a stout. With an ABV of 7.5%, there is no presence of alcohol on the palate. Spicy heat from the chipotle peppers, yes, but no heat from alcohol.
Overall: What an interesting, tasty beer! I love the smoky, spicy, chipotle flavors! Delicious!

22oz bottle into snifter. Thanks again StormKing47!
A: Pours near black with a thin dark brown head that faded to spotty soapy lace.
S: Mild roasted chipotle notes with a touch of milk chocolate milkshake and caramel.
T: Creamy and semi-sweet milk chocolate up front with roasted pepper and spice in the finish. The aftertaste is pepper and linger burn. Good roasted flavor, balancing hershey syrup.
M: Full body, fairy thick mouthfeel with a good chew to it. Nice smooth pepper burn, low carbonation.
O: The perfect balance of heat and sweet. Delicious.

H.E.R.O pours a black color, with a large lacing tan head. There is a sweet chocolate aroma. The taste has a nice mellow cocoa powder flavor, with a mellow smokey chipotle flavor near the end. Good full flavor, good complete body. Overall a well executed complex beer.

HERO 2012, well, this is awesome. Pours a dark opaque black with a thin cap of tightly bubbled carbonation. Smells of smokey peppers, cacao, and roasted grain. Taste is pure joy. A nice stout with a hint of sweetness, full bodied roasted character, and a smokey pepper finish. A tingle of heat, but nothing that builds in the chest or lingers long. Mouthfeel was decent, though I would have liked it to be just a bit thicker. Overall, a brew I hope DuClaw brings back as a regular.
