Style: American Porter
Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.50%
Availability: Rotating
Notes / Commercial Description:
First brewed in 2011, this Chocolate Peanut Butter Porter is jet black in color with a tan, rocky head, full body and creamy, luxurious mouthfeel. Its lightly sweet, malty flavor is accented by rich flavors of chocolate, coffee and peanut butter, and balanced by a subtle hop character and moderate 6.5% abv. Sweet Baby Jesus finishes smooth, dry, and roasty with lingering notes of chocolate and peanut butter so savory, you will exclaim its name!

Overall very good, nothing above and beyond for a porter but you won’t be disappointed if you like porters.

Reviewed from notes. Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a Cigar City goblet.
A: Darkish brown but definitely brown (not as black as some porters), and nearly opaque. A finger’s worth of tan head with average retention and a good amount on visible carbonation runs up the sides of the glass.
S: Peanut butter, roasted malts. Chocolate, cocoa powder, and cacao. Some dry bitterness from hops and roast balances a creamy sweetness, perhaps from a lactose addition.
T: Peanut butter, chocolate, and roasted malts. Hint of coffee roasted malts and burnt black coffee. Dry baker's chocolate. Finishes more dry, with a balanced bitterness (hop and roast) with even more peanut butter. This isn't a sweet bomb by any stretch.
M: The body seems a little light for a porter, and that impression is worsened by the fact that I think it's somewhat over-carbonated. This detracts from what could have been a silky mouthfeel. The alcohol is well-hidden.
O: Decent. I think a thicker (or at more substantial) body and/or more lactose would have helped. There are better peanut butter/chocolate porters out there for sure. I opened a second bottle after drinking a growler from Willoughby, and this doesn’t even hold a candle to Willoughby’s. As it is, it just isn't complex, but remains serviceable.

L: Pours a pitch blck with a finger and a half of tan head.
S: Smells of peanut butter and dark malts.
T: Follows nose. A bit sweet.
F: Full body with moderate carbonation. It's thick for a porter.
O: I believe this was my first peanut butter flavored beer. It didn't suck.

Look -- Dark Black where you can slightly see at the bottom of the glass
Smell -- This is where Sweet Baby Jesus stands out. Smells like peanut butter and chocolate milk shake based off the smell!
Taste -- The taste is not as good as the smell. You get a roasty taste, chocolate, coffee, and hints of peanut butter
Feel -- On the thin size
Overall -- Don't understand why this beer is rated so low BUT I'm a fan of peanut butter porters and stouts and it taste GREAT to me! The aroma is the highlight of the beer! If you never had a peanut butter flavored beer give it try don't be discouraged by overall rating!

This beer was lighter than I expected, but it was good.
Look: Very dark with a touch of red ruby. Khaki head
Smell: Roasty notes, chocolate and peanut butter
Taste: Coffee, roasted malts, chocolate, natural peanut butter, but a touch on the bitter side
Feel: thinner than expected, but well carbonated.
This was a good beer. It wasn't what I expected, but it definitely hit the spot.
