Notes / Commercial Description:
First brewed in 2011, this Chocolate Peanut Butter Porter is jet black in color with a tan, rocky head, full body and creamy, luxurious mouthfeel. Its lightly sweet, malty flavor is accented by rich flavors of chocolate, coffee and peanut butter, and balanced by a subtle hop character and moderate 6.5% abv. Sweet Baby Jesus finishes smooth, dry, and roasty with lingering notes of chocolate and peanut butter so savory, you will exclaim its name!

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, no bottle dating. Pours fairly clear very dark brown color with a 2 finger dense khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice dense soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big milk chocolate, cocoa, peanut butter, caramel, toffee, toast, brown bread, light herbal, and roast/toasted earthiness. Fantastic aromas with great complexity and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and peanut butter notes; with great strength. Taste of big milk chocolate, cocoa, peanut butter, caramel, toffee, toast, brown bread, light herbal, and roast/toasted earthiness. Light herbal/roast bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of milk chocolate, cocoa, peanut butter, caramel, toffee, toast, brown bread, and roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and peanut butter flavors; with a good roasted bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. medium carbonation and body; with a smooth, moderately creamy/silky, and slightly chalky mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an awesome peanut butter porter style. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and peanut butter flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink. The aromas were much stronger with peanut butter presence; the flavors were more balanced overall. A highly enjoyable offering.

Dark brown in color with golden edges. The finger of head dissipated rather quickly.

There is some chocolate in the nose. Cocoa is upfront in the flavor profile with a faint trace of peanut butter. I thought that this offering would be quite sweet but rather it was nicely dry.

12 oz. bottle from the magick singles cooler at Al's of Hamden/Pizza Boy in Harrisburg, Pa.

Much as I love the name of this beer, I am a brown ale/porter sceptic so I bought a single to try it out. Pours dark brown with a perky half inch head and nice lacing, looks great.

Aroma is all about the peanuts, from the first to the last sip.
Taste incorporates chocolate, nicely balancing the peanut and malt flavors. I give SBJ the nod over my local Liquid Bliss taste wise .

Mouthfeel is pleasant, consistent carbonation. Not thin.

I loved it, going to buy more.

Appearance: Majorly brown body, thin head.

Aroma: One of the more intense peanut noses i've seen on a beer like this. Maybe some waffle cone. Light chocolate.

Flavor: More harsh roast character than the nose would believe, great peanut, notes, very light chocolate.

Mouthfeel: Light bodied true porter body, touch of some drying quality to the roast.

Im sorry but porters are my favorite style. But I found this beer undrinkable. The peanut butter smell and taste are overwhelming and just nasty. Not even worth the price .

12 ounce bottle - $2.00 at Tasty Beverage Co. in Asheville, North Carolina.

Appearance: Pours a very dark brown body with a faintest hint of tawny ruby at the far, far edges. Scant, stray beige bubbles struggle to maintain a head beyond a minute or so.

Smell: Well, frankly, it smells of a peanut butter cup that beckons you to let it in your mouth and embrace you in its endless grasp of sweet chocolate laden peanut butteriness.

Taste: A roasty, sweet, chocolaty start with a bitter richness akin to a dark chocolate creeping in which is quickly overtaken by the peanuts peanuts peanuts. A light fruitiness, a bit hard to discern beyond the, as previously mentioned, peanuts peanuts peanuts. Perhaps an imagined slight salty element. Finishes as it starts: sweetish, chocolaty and full of peanut butter.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Lightly creamy mouthfeel.

Overall: Granted, I'm not a fan of peanut butter anything, really. I had thought the locally-produced Liquid Bliss by Terrapin was fair enough, but, to my surprise, this was actually pretty good (at least for a twelve ounce bottle and a two-buck purchase) and one of the better beers at pulling off the whole peanut butter angle.

Pours a very dark brown body; aroma of nutty peanut butter and chocolate is dead on, so good. Flavor is a little less intense but both are present. Body a little light for a porter but overall, i very much enjoyed this one.
