S: Black pepper, rye whiskey, oak, hints of cocoa

L: Very dark brown, bordering on black. Light tan head that dissipates to a ring of foam.

T: Big coffee notes up front with some fudge batter. Black pepper like bourbon follows with considerable alcohol heat. Little bitterness overall. More cake batter into the finish with a touch of bitterness in the finish.

M: Medium bodied, medium-low carbonation. Quite hot with the alcohol.

Served on tap in a chalice glass

Appearance – The beer is served a pitch black color with a one finger of tan colored head. The head has a good level of retention, slowly fading to leave a moderate level of lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell – The aroma of the beer is massive of a s vanilla smell with a big presence of a dark roasted malt smell as a well as a bit lot roasted bourbon booziness and some notes of cocoa.

Taste – The taste begins with a sweeter roasted malt and chocolate taste with plenty of bourbon booziness and a good deal of vanilla and darker fruits. The bourbon booziness grow slightly stronger as the taste advances with some other more roasted malt flavor increasing in intensity as well. The sweetness remains rather high with a good showing of chocolate, sweet vanilla, and caramel throughout, but is all the while balanced by the rather robust boozy and dark flavors of the brew, leaving one with a quite thick and satisfyingly robust dark imperial flavor to linger on the tongue, slightly boozy,

Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is super thick with a lower carbonation. These characteristics are fantastic for the big rich and slightly boozy flavors of the brew creating a nice feel to accentuate the big and powerful flavors.

Overall – This is a quite enjoyable and rather robust imperial stout with tons of flavor and a really nice mouth coating feel.

Duclaw event at Pizza Boy, draft offering served in a snifter. The brew appears black in color with a rich khaki head. Some patchy lace fades to spotty marks on the glass. This is an overall nice and rich looking brew with surprising head retention for the brew's strength.

The aroma includes plenty of roast and bourbon. Some trace amounts of anise, coffee and raisony alcohol blend with a raw woody inclusion and a hint of baker's chocolate.

The flavor is raw and oaky with hints of anise, roasty and milk chocolate. Dark fruit like raisons blend with a bourbon flavor deepening the fruity sweet qualities and solvent alcohol aspects.

This is a medium bodied brew with a modest amount of carbonation. It is much better than DR #1 but still a little rough around the edges but enjoyable. This was a real unique occasion to be able to try both divine retributions side by side. I made a comment about Divine Retribution #1 that it seemed off almost like Colossus was used to cover up a bad batch of Retribution. However, maybe its the collosus I dont like blended in since this blend with Repent seems significantly more enjoyable.

Poured from the bottle into a Cigar City snifter.

The beer pours black with no head to speak of. I'm getting sweet roasted malt in the smell along with lots of bourbon and some vanilla notes. The taste is smoother than I expected it to be. Lots of bourbon here along with some oak and vanilla. This beer wasn't as sweet as I expected it to be, but it was still quite sweet. There is a strong alcohol presence.
