BEER INFO

Brewed by:

Style: American Amber / Red Lager

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 4.50%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Pre-Prohibition style salutes a time when lagers had greater character and more distinct flavor, when beer wasn't full of the additives found in many of today's mainstream lagers. Lucky Bucket's version has a light, malty flavor that's easy on the palate. Filtered twice, the subtle maltiness nicely balances a floral hop. Dry-hopped with a fresh blend of aromatic West Coast hops, Lucky Bucket Lager is a great session beer with an ABV of 4.5% and 20 IBU's.

Not a bad beer with a lot of qualities, but none that seem hoppy per se. Appearance, body, & aroma are all ok, but nothing to write home about.

12oz bottle in a pub glass.

Dark amber-copper color with a thin dirty-white colored head. Bright, clean and clear body. Modest bubbles, spotty lacing.

Roasty malt aroma with a touch of warm alcohol. Grass and grain.

Liquid fruit bread flavor, literally. The hops offer enough floral flavor to balance the strong bread.

Firm, not fizzy or thin. Some lager mineral note with a mild hop finish.

Pretty good for the style. The 20ibu help it along.

Goes down fairly smooth - Was expecting a little bite to it just because of the name. Decent beer but was hoping for great considering it is brewed in my backyard. In my opinion nothing to truly write home about though. Smells interesting when first opened, kind of biscuity. Fairly light tasting, no spice or bite.

It is a clean beer but I'm not sure how much is it within lager style.

We pop a bottle, pouring into our shiny new Boulevard Nutcracker pint glass. It offers a crystal clear golden brown coloring, with a quick half finger head of crispy tan bubbles. This is more of a film than a head, but leaves spotted lacing once the beer begins to descend. No haze or sediment is found whatsoever, and carbonation appears to be light and deliberate. The aroma speaks highly of chemical-rich lemon cleaner, heavy adjuncty grain of white flour and brown rice, marshmallow sugars, ice, gingerbread warmth, fried egg metallics, Styrofoam, oily breadiness, apricots and fermented strawberries, burnt caramel malts, nickel metallics, and raw sunflower seeds and peanuts. The taste shows a bit more candor with flowing pale, crystal, and metallic adjuncty malts, bitter floral and grassy hops, bitter diacetyls and acetylaldehyde twinge, baked corn husk, raw plastics, white wax, apple sauce sugars, toasty caramel sugars, lemon zest, and uncooked pasta starchiness. The body is lightly medium but bready, and the carbonation is high and tight. The mouth is mildly coated, but quickly fades to a clean, tannic dryness. Otherwise, the mucosa feels cool and cleaned. The abv is appropriate, and the beer drinks back easily.

Overall, this is a fresh brewery for us. They certainly advertise this brewing company across Omaha locally enough, but we are kinda happy we got a sampling chance on this visit. We had just finished “pint night” actually at a local beer bar, and were coming back to the hotel to finish out our night in the room. In passing the snack area of the hotel lobby we came across a beer cooler, and obviously happily selected any local beverages that required rating, including this one. This, as we expected from the description, was a simple lager. It had a nice drinking face to it, but the flavor just wasn’t there in full force. To retract, the flavor and nose were there in simplicity, but didn’t make you want to drink many more of these. Perhaps if you’re going after a non-exclusively craft audience then it’s okay, but you’re not going to sway any IPA or stout seekers with this one. The job is done, and one can move on from there.
