Style: Märzen / Oktoberfest
Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.50%
Availability: Fall
Notes / Commercial Description:
When Bavarian Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese tied the knot in 1810, the couple invited about a hundred thousand of their closest friends to celebrate on Munich's front lawn and the world's largest annual festival was born. Lucky Bucket salutes this fine tradition with an authentic Oktoberfest lager for the fall season. Using only the finest German malt and hops, we've created a beer with a wonderful malty flavor, full body, and crisp finish that would make Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese proud. Prost!

The last guy probably got a bad bottle. So take it for what it worth. This was a decent, not solid, but decent brew. . All I can say is this beer is not outstanding, but I wouldn't turn down drinking 2 or 3 of them wth a buddy if he had a six pack. Not bad but not good. Definitely one to try if you got it.

A: Dark, reddish amber hue with a huge bubbly, foamy head; lacing is not there and this is a pretty murky looking lager
S: Grainy and somewhat herbaly and sour; musty and metallic; something smells a bit strange here; and there is way too much malt for an Oktoberfest--at least it smells that way
T: Yep, it's really malty and grainy; something medicinal on the finish; some burnt malts, toffee as well in the finish that make it somewhat pleasant
F: Pretty thin--even for a lager
O: A pretty average Oktoberfest; not bad and refreshing but subdued, simple, and too malty

Aroma - Toasty malt, but not caramel. Very clean aroma.
Appearance - Nice orange color. Completely clear. Off white head that dissipated to only a ring around the edge of the glass.
Taste - Brief malt sweetness. Somewhat toasty, but again, no caramel. Little to no hop flavor or bitterness. Balanced toward malt but still dry. Very clean.
Mouth Feel - Medium body. Creamy. Clean and dry finish. Good carbonation.
Overall Impression - Good beer with a somewhat complex malt character. Very clean beer. A solid Oktoberfest. Definitely drinkable, but nothing to rave about.

The fairly light aroma includes toasted malt, rye bread, raisin; becomes a little nutty and chocolatey after a couple minutes. The head, which is reluctant to form, is off-white; the body is very clear and deep orange-brown in color. The flavor includes lightly toasted malt, chocolate, nuts, considerable spicy and mildly bitter hops, and plenty of tasty malt in the finish. The feel is somewhat light and fairly crisp but with weak carbonation.
A bit thin in body and overall rather straightforward, seems like an ordinary lager with more toasted malt. Very drinkable and not bad at all but overall so-so.

Poured into a dimpled mug.
Look: Classic caramel or iced tea colored body with a light cream colored head receding to a light film. Light lacing, if that.
Aroma: Toasted malts, light caramel, toffee.
Taste: Sweet malts, toasted grains, toffee, spicy hops, tea tang finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied, crisp.
Overall: In a sea of marzens, this one probably gets lost yet isn't bad at all, all the classic traits you look for.

Thought I'd give this a spin. It's a cold night out, unusual for September. I guess that means fall's approaching, eh?
Serving style : 12 oz stubbie poured into glass for appearance
Appearance (3.25) : Almost a ruby/copper colored body, about 50/50 transparency and opaqueness, with a thin, quickly diminishing sudsy head. Leaves about one ring of lacing around the glass.
Smell (4.25) : Definitely gourd. For sure. I know what those smell like being in South Dakota during harvest season. They nailed the pumpkin smell. It's almost fishy, and pumpkins don't always smell the greatest, so kudos. Very very light nutmeg, perhaps some hazelnut, and muted cinnamon. Green, almost dead grass. I really like how they nailed autumn in the nose. It's not the most extravagant smelling beer, but then again, fall has its "smells".
Taste (4.5) : Yes. Heavy nutmeg and pumpkin flesh. This is a robust beer and quite possibly the best Oktoberfest i've had yet. Some raw pumpkin seed, a little coriander. Again, the muted cinnamon comes at the end. And when I say muted, I say that it's barely there but compliments everything else. Taste of robust gourd and pumpkin left on the finish. This is done right.
Mouthfeel (3.75) : Some prickly carbonation but not too distracting. The body is creamy and smooth, and the finish is reminiscent of dry crisp air and fresh pumpkin. I guess the finish is dry and crisp.
Overall (4.24) : I've never had Lucky Bucket, and I wasn't expecting much, but this Oktoberfest blew me away. So many Pumpkin beers have too many spices, too little pumpkin, clashing flavors, artificial injections...etc etc. This is just a good, straight gourd beer. If you like pumpkin in your pumpkin beer, look no further. This one's a good shot.

LOOKS: Poured into a Nonic pint glass. A bout an inch of khaki creamy head. Dark amber or copper with lots of small bubbles rising. Leaves a little lacing down the glass.
AROMA: Good amount of sweet malt. Reminds me of dried lighter fruits and grain. Lots of lightly toasted bread.
TASTE: Very mild flavor. The sweetness in this beer tastes a little artificial. There is a sweet tea like quality. The aroma was nicer than the actual flavor. A bit 2 dimensional. Sweet with a little breadiness to it. A little grassiness from the hops in the taste but absolutely no bitterness.
MOUTHFEEL: Thin, a bit watery, but refreshing. Not a sticky beer, finishes pretty dry. Carbonation is mild on the palate.
OVERALL: An above average beer. Nothing too memorable here, though.
