Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.30%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
India Pale Ale is about balance. The right balance of malt, hop flavor, bitterness, and aroma to create an unforgettable ale. Lucky Bucket's Original American IPA begins with a nice malt bill that lets the brew stand up to the mountain of hops added later. After the boil, the hot wort (the beer before it's really beer) is fired through a hop back, a unique four-barrel stainless steel tank filled with a gratuitous amount of raw flower Amarillo, Centennial, and Cascade hops, extracting the aromatic oils and flavor of the hops. Followed with additional dry hopping in the fermenter, the end result is a big, well-balanced West Coast-style IPA with terrific hop flavor and aroma. Lucky Bucket IPA weighs in at 65 IBUs and 6.3% ABV.

L:deep amber color, with a lacing head
S: malty with some pine
T: well balanced, nice malt backbone, resinous hops
F: big mouthfeel, medium body
O: solid IPA, not the citrus/trop that I normally go for, but I'm glad I tried it

LOOKS: Amber/red in color. Poured aggressively into a Nonic Pint glass. One finger of light tan head that dissipates slowly, leaves mild lacing down the glass. Lots of small bubbles streaming up.
AROMA: Floral, caramel, citrus, bready, a little pine. Tiny bit astringent/ ammonia like.
TASTE: Kind of one note. Bitterness and grapefruit/citrus peel. Bitterness is not overwhelming, but lingers. Just nothing that really pops as far as flavors go.
MOUTHFEEL: Medium body, dry back end. Carbonation was full and noticeable in a good way.
OVERALL: An alright IPA, but with so many great options out there, this might get lost in the mix.

Huge thanks to my friend for bringing this back from Omaha! The smell is textbook old-school IPA - I get plenty of doughy, biscuity malt alongside notes of grapefruit and pine (the latter is more assertive). There isn't much else to this beer's aroma, sadly. Flavor-wise, it starts with a powerful piny quality (not necessarily a bitter one, though), before quickly giving way to a malty middle. I pick up lots of biscuit, caramel, toast, and toffee here. The finish is also a little bready, though remaining light and surprisingly crisp. I'm surprised how easily this goes down in spite of the fuller, creamy texture. This doesn't set the world on fire by any means - as a food beer, though, it works quite well. On its own, it's nice, just not great.

3.24/5: Pleasing yet hardly show-stopping

Decent IPA for being brewed here in Nebraska. Pretty flavorful and has grassy overtones. Recommended for people who are just wanting to try different IPAs or are getting into the IPA world. Nice job Lucky Bucket!

Too many different type of hops (Amarillo, centennial and cascade). Maybe tap might be better but the 6-pack I bought in Omaha had been sub-par.
